Barclaycard Late Payment

Barclaycard payment was due on 24th Sep. Suddenly remembered last night and paid through Barclays online banking at 11 pm.
Received call from BC today whilst filling car and said I'd ring them back.
I checked statement online and payment made on 25th so too late.
I rang BC and here is my gripe.
" I can put these payments down as your payments for next month or you will be charged a late payment fee. Or you can make the payments again now by debit card and I will waive the fee" I opted for the late payment fee.
I said that I thought the payment from my barclays account to barclaycard was immediate. I was told, "not now, it takes 3 to 4 working days.
Amazing then how my payment on debit card to Waitrose shows the same day.
Why when the payments had already left my account should I pay again?
They are also a bit hot on late payment, this is the first time in years I've made this error, yet they were ringing me the next day.
Just to say, this is the first month in yonks that I spent on a BC, a small hotel bill and have recently had my credit limits upped a lot by them, their decision, not requested.
Have I made the wrong decision in accepting late payment fee and if so, what should I do?
I'm nervous now, are they going to demand credit settled?

Paying by online banking does take a few days to go through. If you'd paid by debit card last night you'd have been OK because they would have seen that payment.
I guess they wanted a payment straight away because the online banking one was just what you'd told them and it hadnt arrived yet.0 -
Not sure I understand the options. Are you saying that the payment made yesterday would count as next month's payment, if you made at least the minimum payment required by debit card over the phone today? {snip}
Yes Moggles, that is exactly what I was told.
The late payment fee I can bear, just. The late payment though is now a strike against my credit score.
I couldn't afford another full payment so I opted for the "fine".
I am going through Divorce, didn't tell them that, or another few points lost aginst credit score, but it is so stressful.0 -

No they're not, nothing of the sort.
Whatever was said to you IGNORE, it just doesn't make any sense whatsoever.
You have made the payment for this statement cycle, albeit late so can expect a £12 charge, but unlikely to receive a missed payment marker on your credit report as you have paid !
Call them back, explain, apologise and you'll more than likely get the £12 refunded if this is a 'first offence'.
At the same time ask to set up a Direct Debit, you'll never have this problem again which I'm afraid is of your own making by leaving it too late. It's standard policy for all cards to require payment to be made up to 5 working days before the due date to ensure it gets their in time. That's the banking system for you !0 -
Hi
I just had to same problems with BC because of a late payment, They stopped my 0% promo dropped my credit limit by £600, I wrote a letter to cust service any they have reinstated my 0% put my credit limit back to how it was, Refunded my late payment fees , Just waiting to hear to see if they are going to report me to the the CRA !!
Will there be any serious implications with 1 late payment !!0 -

I think I'm over emphasising everything due to the other stress. When the house is sold, I never want to see a credit card for the rest of my life.
Thanks all.0
