I admit we're going off the subject here, but I'm with you on that. We have three large supermarkets within three miles of home, Asda, Tesco and Sainsburys. They all have HUGE clothing, home and entertainment departments, it's way too tempting...0 -
I concur - I've changed to a milkman about 2 weeks ago for semi-skimmed organic. It isn't cheaper 66p per pint but I used to have to carry 4pints at a time back from the supermarket - so it may save my back.
One thing though - check before ordering to see if your local dairy does actually deliver organic in glass bottles; Dairy Crest don't, each pint is in it's own plastic tetrapak which doesn't help with recycling as I found out during my first week.I do hope you're telling the truth?0 -
We tried a local milkman but he was expensive and unreliable, so now we stick to the shop at the top of the road and/or supermarket trips. The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.0

Ironically - I live in a rural area a stones through from milking cows - but no milkman (not enough business) ! So have to use the supermarket. :mad:Give somebody a hug it costs nothing

I have my milk delivered from the local dairyman. It's in a returnable glass bottle. I don't shop in Supermarkets so to have a doorstep delivery is fantastic.

have you asked at the farms?
My aunt gets milk, eggs and amazing cheese, plus bread and cakes and things from a local farm, who don't advertise, but sell to friendly neighbours!Membre Of Teh Misspleing Culb0 -
I buy proper unpasteurised milk from my local farmers market. Tastes great, and the lady warned me last time that the reason it was looking a bit yellow was that the cows had started eating the grass!0

But energy wise, going back to OP, the milkman will have to make a special journey to your house, wasting electric.
You on the other hand would already be visiting the supermarket for other items, therefore no extra energy wastage.0 -
not at all, if he's already delivering to next door...Membre Of Teh Misspleing Culb0

What if it's a cul-de-sac and by delivering one further up the road he drives slightly further up the road?
(OK, You have a point Starlite. lol. We stopped it being delivered due to the fact our milk was being nicked from the shed.)0
