Is iphone 3g software upgradable to 3gs?

Hi,

I have an iphone 16gb3gs, now the wife wants one.

I can share minutes and get an ok deal. Lady at O2 says she will send a 8gb iphone. She says when connected to itunes it updates to 3gs????

She says the 8gb model will then be the same as my 16 gb 3gs , apart from the storage.

Is she telling the truth?

No, the 3GS has different hardware. I.e. the 3G has a slower processor and less ram than the 3GS.

You maybe able to hack into an iphone and put on the latest software of another phone, but that doesnt turn it into another phone. Physically they are different!

Would the missus notice the difference though? is it much slower? does it play games the same and would tomtom work ( not that it works that well on mine)?

If she wants a compass then she would notice the difference.

I think you should get her the same as yours - less grief all round.

The idea of hacking to put software on, whilst maybe possible. it just wouldnt work.

I.e. Put the IPhone software on an IPod Touch (has be done). Can the IPod make calls, or take photos. Nope, as it doesn't have the physical hardware to do so. It might have the buttons on screen for calling, but physically it cannot do it.

IPhone is an IPhone,
and IPhone 3G is an IPhone 3G,
and IPhone 3GS is an IPhone 3Gs.

Software alone cannot change it. i think i have reiterated the point enough. She blatantly lied to you, or is totally confused on what technology is. As it was sales person, i would guess she lied.
