There is a clear and very nasty downside to the pound caused by the existance of the Euro.
In times past, the Dollar reigned supreme followed by the Deutschmark and Yen then came the Pound, French Franc and Swiss Franc.
Now the Euro seems to be working out, the pound is being overtaken, in effect, by the Spanish Pesetas and Dutch Guilders of the currency world. The Pound could find itself relegated to the status of the Aussie Dollar or worse. That would be expensive as it would imply either accepting higher inflation or higher interest rates (more likely the latter).
Of course if the Euro blows up then the Pound will move up a few notches in its perceived reliability.0 -
Whistable huh? Never heard of it so I just googled. Apparently it's the Pearl of Kent. I'm not keen on Oysters, think I'd prefer Whistler.
I think the BoE would go with option 1 although 2 is possible.
I'm not sure what's best for me in terms of the £ as I don't know where I'll be living in 2 years, but a weaker AUD would be advantageous as most of my investments are overseas.
Whistable is actually jolly nice as English seaside places go. Especially Kentish seaside towns (most of which are dreadful).
I think Charles Darwin or maybe Rudyard Kipling lived by the beach there although I may (well) be wrong.
You can buy some lovely freshly boiled crabs there certainly.0 -

Also, the Euro has helped made a lot of the "cheap" countries to visit not so.
There's another alternative - join the Euro.
If the Euro does survive, I wonder how long until an Asian currency is born, perhaps led by China.0 -

Thanks for the advice, but I'm not really in England for the beaches.:rotfl:
Still never say never, right?
I'll probably visit Phuket next year. You can get all sorts of crabs there too, although some are best avoided.0 -

NE England has some of the finest beaches in the world (if you don't mind putting a jumper on to visit them).
I understand the crabs you're talking about are obtained from the old boilers rather than being freshly boiled.0 -

I do want to do a bit of a tour around Scotland, and eat some fresh seafood. We went to the lakes district in summer. I told my fiancee to pack her bikini and I took boardies "it's summer and it's a lakes district..." How wrong I was! Still very nice though.I understand the crabs you're talking about are obtained from the old boilers rather than being freshly boiled.
Nicely put.

The best seafood in the world (IMO) comes from the North Coast of Scotland and is the Langoustine. Boil them for a minute or so and serve with homemade mayonnaise or alioli.
The Lake District and Lake Macquarie are very different things. I'm hoping to go cycling around the latter in a fortnight or so and don't have plans for jumpers/wet weather gear/sou'westers.0 -

Nice coved beaches in South Hams, Devon.
Salcombe is lovely.
