I thought it was £5 only, so the extra £40 was a shock!! Could ask ex and threaten to remarry him if he doesn't cough up!! :rotfl:

Ahh what's £40 when at the end of it, you'll be marrying your man :D

For us, we only had to pay £30 each to give notice in our district. The rest of the registrar bill is now due to the one where we are getting married, but not till April next year.

I found giving notice scary for some reason lol. They took us in separately, which I hadn't expected, and asked me H2B's age and occupation. I couldn't remeber his age. Said his date of birth and was trying to work it out and had a complete brain freeze. Registrar had to help me. :rotfl:

Then, I came out, and before H2B went in I whispered that he needed to know my job (wasn't convinced I did). Afterwards he told me that he thought I'd said my work phone number so he was trying to look it up on his phone as he went.

Oh, and H2B has previously been married and divorced in Canada (though he's British). He had never bothered getting his divorce cert so we had to have one couriered over from Toronto in a mad rush. Still only cost around £30 - no charge for the certificate and we just slipped in $50 and ask them to send it by the quickest courier they could with the cash.

For the bills, take your council tax bill and mobile phone bills. So long as they have your name(s) and address on that should be fine.

It's £30 to give notice anywhere in the country, just the fees to come out for them to marry you which is different.

I read about the little interview each has, but last night I read that a couple went to give notice and they just got asked (together in the same room), their names, DOB's, addresses and the cash for their fee and that was it!

This is all ours was, and I was so nervous about going in on my own and being quizzed!! In the end she only asked h2b questions about me anyway, all I did was sign the bit of paper.

We paid £30 each for notice and have a final £43.50 to pay on the day but we are marrying at the registry office.

We were both interviewed together and had only to show driving licences, bank statements and rent account card oh and his divorce papers. We were in and out with in 10 mins, would have been quicker but she printed out one of the notices wrong.

    That's almost £300 difference, eek!

We would have got married at the registry office and then onto the venue, but they stop marrying people at 12.30 on a Saturday which is way too early for us, especially as I'll have 3 children to get ready!

  • We had discussed options of where to get wed as OH was married previously and his ex wanted the big lavish church do where it was a competition between her and her sister who could have the biggest and most expensive day. So for him a church wedding was ruled out (by us they still marry you if you have been previously wed).

My sister had her wedding and venue in the same place, because she had an 11am ceremony, sit down meal following before an evening do which started at 7pm i found most of the guests got bored and said they were going home to change/freshen up but didnt return lol.

So we asked what appointments the registry office had around lunch and it was either 12pm or 2pm so we opted for 2pm and dont have to be at venue now until 4pm so plenty of time for photos (or nip in pub on way back for a quick half).
