Only £500?? I hope to knock £1000 off the budget!

We've got one hell of a honeymoon/my 40th birthday holiday planned!! (we plan to get married a few days before my 40th - I insisted on getting married while I'm still in my 30s!!)

We want to do a 3 week driving trip across Europe and I want to see my 40th birthday in on the Italian Lakes. Have NO idea how much that will cost, but have planned that we'll have £10,000 in total - for wedding and honeymoon. The more I save on the wedding, the more we get to spend on our honeymoon.

Susu, wow, what a fantastic memory lane you'll be building for you and your hubbby!
We had our wedding then a week on Anglesey for our honeymoon lol.
    But we loved it nonetheless.......
    Enjoy yourself.
Like most things in life, you might upset one or two people for ten minutes but by tomorrow they'll have forgotten, and you will have the wedding that you want, that you and your hubby will enjoy.
I think what you are planning is marvellous, too many weddings are like a trip to Ibiza or the local nightclub.

I wanted a medieval wedding and we were going to hire a place called Ford Green Hall, and manor house down the road. But they would only accept 24 guests so we had to abandon the plan.......
I just thought, I might book it for an anniversary party one of the days ;)

  • I'm 27 and DF is 23 and very much into his music.

We are not having a DJ.

Most of the weddings i have been to over the last few years have had a DJ playing away in the corner, playing music that neither of the bride / groom requested or wanted. More recently at my mums wedding the DJ already had music set up using his laptop and all he did was prop up the bar all night and chraged my mum £150 for the priviledge.

As DF loves his music he says he will be gutted if the DJ doesnt play exactly what he wants and if even 1 cheesy song slips into the playlist he'll go mental. He has dabbled in DJing himself and has taken over the djing at a few weddings as the original DJ was pants - and i really dont want him doing this at our own wedding.

Hence why we are not having one.

But we know our guests (and maybe even us) will get a little bored so we are hiring 2 casino tables, which will allow for us to mingle with our guests and have a bit of fun also. It will also make our wedding completely different to all the others we have been too recently.

  • HI there, I love your idea, but after a few drinks I do think poeple may get bored. How about hiring a roulette table or a magician to table magic. Or you could just set a cd player up with some cds of your favourite songs to play in the background. I had quites for the amgic and roulette table and it was £300 each. The roulette is just for fun and they give your guests pretend money to play with.

  • We went for the computer playlist option, having two rooms with one being the sit-down/chat room, and the other being the disco. It worked extremely well. We bought a day-pass at spotify (99p), and that is a fair saving from having a DJ. A slight pause between the songs is obviously to be expected. We had a few good nights with friends, best-man and bridesmaids while sorting out the playlist. Everyone got their say and we managed to get a very varied playlist. I doubt any DJ would have that range - and of course it saved us a lot of money...

We did this for our engagement and everyone commeted how nice it was. We had a room with lots of sofa's and a bar. We also had background music on the i-pod. It wasnt a late night but everyone did stay till about 11pm.

It was lovely and relaxed and I really enjoyed it :)
