Avoiding eBay fees by inflating P&P

sadly thats not true
too many new buyers to ebay will get stung by these sellers, they will buy based purely on the selling price and not see the p & p until its too late
these buyers will, more often than not, think that all sellers on ebay are like this and not buy again
they will tell their friends who have never used ebay and they will never use ebay
this thens cuts down the amount of buyers for us more honest sellersSee the stars they’re shining brightEverything’s alright tonight0 -
roses wrote:It's Ebay's problem not yours. As long as you are happy with the total cost inc p&p that you are paying then why does it matter to you?
Hopefully my last post will answer your second point, but I'll respond to the first.
I agree that it is a problem for eBay as they are losing revenue, but it is a much more insidious problem for the rest of us. If you see nothing wrong in what these people are doing then I seriously have to question your ethics and morality. You are condoning and encouraging dishonest behaviour, and society is going to be worse off because of it. When some people see others profiting from dishonesty, they will be seduced or feel compelled to follow suite. Also, there is the potential for this behaviour to escalate or spill over into other areas.
I'll summarise this issue with simple point, do you value profit over ethics?Better to die on your feet than to live on your knees!0 -

There is a difference. I wouldn't sell pirate or fake goods & I would never mislead buyers.
However I don't agree with the ridiculous Ebay fees. Persoanlly I don't over charge p&p however if I see a seller selling something I want & it is 1p buy it now & £10 p&p then I would have no problem buying it if I expect to pay £10 inc p&p.
Those who are tricked & don't see the p&p until last minute are fools because p&p is quite clear at the bottom of the auction.0 -

that of course raises another problem, that if ebay lose revenue, then they will put the fees up and therefore all honest sellers lose again
it hadnt occured to me til you mentioned thatSee the stars they’re shining brightEverything’s alright tonight0 -

You obviously recognise that eBay is the best place to sell your goods, but do not appreciate the investment that has been necessary to achieve and maintain this. If you are so opposed to eBays fees then use your most powerful tool... take your business elsewhere.
As you and I have already said, this is eBay's problem and with people like you colluding in fee avoidance the problem is increasing. Do you seriously think that eBay take this loss on the chin... no, of course they don't as they build in a provision for wastage in their fees, thereby passing the cost onto everyone else.
Participating in fee avoidence is not only perpetuating a culture of dishonesty it is also costing everyone else money.Better to die on your feet than to live on your knees!0 -
Spirited wrote:Another P&P oddity: When listing one of my items using turbo lister, I only wanted to send it via Special Delivery (due to the value of the item) and so I replaced my usual 1st Class charge with a Free on pick up. This means that my item has appeared with 'Free' postage on listings, (with more services available). I didn't mean this to happen, but I worry that it could be used to trick buyers.
You can go in and edit the listing in the Payment and Postage section. I would do this NOW to avoid any confusion.

I'm sorry - but if I can save a total of £288.00 in fees (!!!!) by inflating my postage for 30 items I have for sale - I think I'll be doing it! It's not dishonest - eBay's fees are ridiculous. The only difference is that in eBay's search results page, the "Price" and "Postage" columns are effectively "switched" round, so that a £1.00 item has £29.00 postage instead of a £29.00 item having £1.00 postage!
At the end of the day, it doesn't say anything about the seller apart from the fact that they're not willing to sacrifice three hundred quid for the benefit of the multi-billion dollar eBay conglomerate."You're only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it."0 -
I don't do anything special, I just set it up in Turbo Lister.Anthillmob wrote:HOW???? id love to be able to do that.Murphy's No More Pies Club #209

I as a seller always add my sellers fees, paypal fees and travel fees to the postage cost of my item. I have never had any buyer complain that my postge is £1 higher than it actually cost to post.
I hate other sellers who abuse the ebay service and put all costs onto a 1p BIN item.
But i suppose thats life, not much you can do apart from report the seller and hope he learns his lesson. If he doesnt hopefully he is reported again and banned.
