Avoiding eBay fees by inflating P&P

I think that unjustified high postage costs are not acceptable (i.e obvious scams). I think it's almost as bad for the consumer as it is for Ebay.
However, my husband did weigh goods before listin and still managed to over charge, (by the order of £2 for some thing which cost 70p to post - if we'd know that then we would have ust charged £1 - to account for packing) I think our scales might be out.
This time, I've guestimated. I fear that some will be too high, but hopefully not too many, if there is a £2-3 difference on my larger items though, I will refund it through Paypal. I wouldn't feel right otherwise.
Another P&P oddity: When listing one of my items using turbo lister, I only wanted to send it via Special Delivery (due to the value of the item) and so I replaced my usual 1st Class charge with a Free on pick up. This means that my item has appeared with 'Free' postage on listings, (with more services available). I didn't mean this to happen, but I worry that it could be used to trick buyers.I believe the struggle for financial freedom is unfair

It must have been a starting price of 2p - sorry. They had loads of them to sell but I can't find them anymore.0 -
Sorry but I think "get over it" you do not have to purchase anything from e-bay so what is the problem??
Personally do not buy things off e-bay much but if I do I READ the whole of the auction, it is called reading the small print, if you cannot be bothered to read if properly you deserve to be ripped off! I have bought things for "1p" with the higher postage but it I want item I look at the whole charge and decide if I think it is worth it, if I do then I buy it, it really is that simple. Who cares about the actual cost of the postage and packing??
Provided it is packed securely I really don't care...maybe it's just me??0 -
Maybe it is. How can you expect to get an honest deal from somebody who's prepared to break the rules so blatently?Bagpuss1973 wrote:Who cares about the actual cost of the postage and packing??

And when it does go wrong eBay will only refund the price paid, not the p+p.Can I help?0 -

I appreciate what you are saying but then that is the risk you take. If you are really worried about things going wrong, then maybe you are "shopping" in the wrong place and should stick to the highstreet, lets face it most people on ebay either way are trying to make or save money and with the millions of people who use it you are going to get fraudsters. If you don't like the amount of the postage and packing - don't buy it! Simple.0 -
I've currently got some BINs at 49p!Anthillmob wrote:how do you do BIN @ less than 99p??? it wont let me.Murphy's No More Pies Club #209

I don't really care about inflated p&p. It's Ebay's problem not yours. As long as you are happy with the total cost inc p&p that you are paying then why does it matter to you? You'll still be paying the same price overall.0

I'm glad to see that most respondants view this as dishonest and refuse to deal with those who practice it.
Its a shame that a few others choose to deal with these people even though they recognise that the seller is dishonest.
I find this view disgraceful as it is no better than trying to pass off fakes as the genuine article or selling stolen goods.highguyuk wrote:I do condone 1p listings and £29.99 P+P as not only is it to avoid fees but maybe to confuse buyers into purchasing not realising the full costs.
I do see where you are coming from Bagpuss, but this is not about being 'ripped off' or being overcharged for P&P, it's about chosing to deal with dishonest traders.
I appreciate that price is the primary consideration for many consumers, but for some others the ethics of the transaction are becoming increasingly important.
I choose not to trade with people who practice dishonestly, I aslo will not trade in goods that appear to be fake, copied or stolen no matter how cheap they are (with or without P&P
) and I'm heartened to see that there are others who feel the same way. Better to die on your feet than to live on your knees!0 -
tonyivb, you obviously have not been shafted by the practises of either Ebay or Paypal. They only care for themselves & it's no skin off their back if a buyer or seller is conned. Why do you care so much for a company that does nothing to protect those who are wronged? After all, with inflated p&p it's only Ebay who lose out & no-one else.0

i'v shunted my prices up to cover paypal/ebay fee's but still am able to offer reasonable postage but i still charge a max of about 4.50 postage (except for boots and a ps2 that cost about £7-9 to post)0
