Getting a job is easy, getting the RIGHT job is where the hard work starts.
I run an event management company, I put on events, I go to events, if I don't know anything about events - its not worth knowing!

I went on a cruise a few years ago and had a great time, but I felt really sorry for the staff. They had to wait on tables etc. and then after that do some cleaning, our bar waiter spent most of the night cleaning the gym after his bar shift.

I hate to think what hours they worked and how pathetically they were paid, they were all foreign, mostly Philipinos and Indians. There were no tips either, but you filled in a form at the end of the trip naming your 3 best staff members. I assume they got some sort of bonus if they were mentioned. Certainly when the bar waiter realised I had named him he gave me several free drinks!

But you were also asked to name 3 bad members of staff. I left that blank as I thought that was really unfair. To be honest all the staff worked like Trojans and were all so pleasant and smiling all the time even though they must get pretty p***ed off with it all.

vet8 why did you not tip them yourself? they have to live off tips....just because it says you do not HAVE to tip does not mean you can not tip...poor excuse if you ask me..i in my former life i was a executive chef on the ships having started as a snotty 16 year old at gravesend sea school in the merchant navy.. anyone thinking of doing it now...dont its slave wages and slave hours unless your in management. and that takes years and years..ps they dont get a bonus for being named but they will have their picture on a notice board as employee of the month...but you cant eat those..
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

Just so you know, Jobcentre Plus staff don't get bonuses, we're all salaried staff, we get the same every month no matter how much work gets done.
I'll leave you to decide if that's a good or bad thing :rotfl:
    Ahh right

Got mixed up. Is it true it works on a points based system though?
There is a points based system. If someone takes up employment after seeing an advert in the jobcentre, the member of staff that told them about the job gets points allocated to them. The staff who like their jobs compete to get highest score for their section or office.

I can't remember exactly but it goes something like this:

The job goes to someone already in employment = 1 point

person who gets job claiming jobseekers under 26 weeks = 3 points

person who gets job on new deal = 5 points

person who gets job is a carer = 8 points

person who gets job is on new deal for 50+ = 10 points

person who gets job was single parent = 12 points

person who gets job was disabled - 15 points.

At the end of each week the jobcente counts up all the points and pats themselves on the back because they got a lot of points, and this is how the performance of each jobcentre is measured.

We did try to tip, but the staf refused them, tipping was not allowed at all. We tried handing it to them and also adding it to the bar bill, but they always refused to take it. Maybe they got the sack if they were found out.
