On the subject of universities:
I dont half feel sorry for future students who may get hit with higher tuition fees. On the news it mentioned around 5K!! for 1 year tuition fees.

I was referring to mental health clients, not the elderly.
No place for a under 25 year old, unless they like that sort of thing. (more suited to age 40 plus)
I'm the same sort of age as you and your attitude is disgusting. If I was long term unemployed I would at least TRY a job before refusing to do it (this attitude.. refusal to do 'menial' jobs.. is what makes employers 'give work to all the immigrants' , and people wonder why!). Hopefully at some point you will need your !!!! wiping too, and hopefully nobody will help you
(for the record, I believe in having a benefits system, but also believe that benefits should be stopped if you can't be bothered to do 'menial' work)0 -

Each to their own
By the way its the poles who take jobs nobody wants, BECAUSE the employers pay VERY low wages. Its only suitable for the poles because they work in the UK and then go home where prices are much lower.
And no, I'd rather be pushing up daises than sitting in my own filfth in a old folks home.
And for your information, my mum works in a mental health institute and I know full well what goes on in said place.
In fact, local councils are trying to shut these places down because they dont want to pay for the clients keep.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Hi Dabode - just a couple of points. Firstly the next time your husband is in the job centre he should ask what the JSA consider an appropriate daily travelling period - there is an official figure and from memory that was an hour, at least for the first 6 months of a claim.
Secondly, while it's the job centre workers job to suggest vacancies, whether they consider it to be a valid job opportunity or not ultimately isn't relevant. Your husband has a medical condition that precludes him working as a chef so all you husband has to say is that those vacancies are inappropriate and politely decline to apply. As long as he can show what he has done to to meet his job seekers agreement ie evidence of applying for jobs he doesn't have to accept those job details. That said with regard to the three 'manager' jobs it would do no harm to follow up on the details; check the person spec for the job, at which point he'll probably find a number of industry-specific bullet points in which he lacks any experience or qualification. Keep a record of these as a reasonable justification for not applying for those jobs.0 -
I completely understand what the op is saying.
This is my advice: if the woman at the JC wants to play games and being sarcastic then play games back. Turn up to the interviews to stay within your means of JSA entitlement and just make a mess of the interview and not get the job until more decent jobs come along
I have reached my 8 week limit on JSA, and I plan to do just that once I reach 13 weeks, because I KNOW there is sod all out there at the moment.
Nothing wrong with pride and self-esteem.
p.s ppl say yeh it is just her job to get ppl off JSA, well what if that person offered a road sweeper job? or care work wiping !!!!!!? its off the JSA after all right lol
sorry but I would give the V sign and lob the JSA sign on booklet at them and walk sternly outside.
I can't believe such a post actually appeared here:eek:,where everyone here is actually trying to find a job, trying to come off benefits. It is ppl like these who spoil it for others. Greed and laziness is the spark of a recession.Do you realize that some countries don't actually have a benefits system, and if you lose your job,you are own your own. Benefits make ppl like above lazy and demotivated to find a job, they absolutely enjoy being paid by government by the taxes of ppl who are hardworking that inculdes the migrant population as well.
Pride and self esteem comes only to ppl who stand on their two feets.working hard and honestly for their money. Not too ppl you Vaporate.:mad:0 -
I can sympathise with the OP. When my OH was made redundant several years ago and had to sign on he found the whole process really demoralising and the JC staff very unhelpful. It seemed to be a bit of a joke as far as they were concerned.
For example, he went to loads of interviews often many miles away and had to pay a lot in train fares, petrol etc. I got him to ask if he could claim travelling expenses as he was genuinely seeking work and the £56 per week JSA was all going on train fares. He was told he could claim, but he had to claim before the interviews not after. When he said he did not know that the staff told him "Oh no, we don't tell anyone that fact."0 -
Clearly you ddint read my post did you.
What if I offered you a job as a chief mourner? or digging holes for graves?

Just a comment on the OP: the young woman was following the rules, and explaining what the law is as regards claiming after 13 weeks. She was also being helpful by suggesting that his management skills might enable him to perform management jobs in other sectors. It is a pity that her advice was taken the wrong way.0
