True enough the number you gave has 0 google results. OTOH 444340-031 as quoted by that seller has shedloads. Are you sure your number isn't just a serial number?

    I reckon that
444340-031 ought to be the correct part (unless you know for sure that the one you bought is that and it doesn't fit) so try your luck looking for a 444340-031 cheap.

If you can't find one to fit you may have to cut your losses and either buy a USB keyboard (killing portability) or sell it as having a duff keyboard (losing money) and let somebody else worry about it.

What makes you think its not-compatible?

is it a substantially different shape physically?

have you installed it as per instructions in a downloaded service manual for your laptop (remembering to plug in the data connection underneath it)?

are you getting any specific error messages?

are there any driver errors being reported under your windows device manager?

i've taken it to 2 different computer shops both say the screws (nuts) on the back of the new keyboard do not fit as per the faulty one thats in at the moment.

the new keyboard says hp530 on it which is what my laptop is but the shops say i need a keyboard to match P/N: KDO85AA#ABU

Ok, here's what I would do:

Service manual for your computer is here:
    http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c01039180/c01039180.pdf

Look at pages 41 to 45.

On page 44 it shows the 2 screws that hold the laptop keyboard in place -you should be able to find the heads of these 2 on the botttom of your laptop to check if they are vaguely in the right place and confirm what the shop is telling you (note one seems to be tucked under the RAM cover).

Alternatively if you read thru the above pages removing the keyboard yourself is quite straightforward and involves removing 13 screws and is fairly unintrusive. you could quite easily pop the existing one off to check the fit also.

If all the metal tabs holding it in place are in the right place and its just the 2 screw holes that would be missing i might be tempted to secure the other one by some other means (eg glue to the case underneath using a small amount of strong glue and try that).

Especially if its an old laptop close to the end of its life anyway (<2 years)

or you could spend £45 + installation fees for someone to remove the 13 screws for you :p
  • thanks for your help jasx but i'm nowhere near confident to start playing around with screws no offence but i don't mind paying to have the keyboard replaced as it will work out cheaper and less stress for me in the long run (i'm below novice level when it comes to computers) i'm hoping someone with more knowledge than me can suggest where i can get the exact replacement i need cheaper than £51.00
  • i've managed to find the excat 1 i need for £32.00 inc vat and postage.
