Hydrogen Fuel Cells

Hope this post is okay and in the right place ...

Is there anyone who has had a Hydrogen fuel cell installed on their vehicle? Did it work? no difference?

There are a few companies offering these and claim that you can increase your mpg and clean up your emissions.

If there is a way to save fuel I think it's worth investigating and any advice or information would be gratefully received.

thanks,
Jackz

  • have you any links to these companies offering the hydrogen fuel cell?
    ...work permit granted!
  • I can't post with links as I am a new user but one company is North West Hydrogen Conversions - the site comes up with google etc.

    - a local garage had some leaflets and I've been trying to find more information.

    Are they laughing at you?

  • lol - doubt it ... haven't spent any of my hard earned money with them.

it sounds good in theory and there is tons and tons of stuff on the net, good and not so good ....

anyone had it done? or know someone?
  • Its a myth. To create the hydrogen you must use energy. Energy that comes from your fuel tank.

That hydrogen then gets added back into the combustion mixture. The result is a net loss of energy, leading to poorer fuel consumption.

The website is a mixture of myth, and myth. It uses science to blind people, and then goes on to claim that engine sludge is caused by the fuel mixture. Its complete !!!!!!!!, and IMO websites like that should be illegal.
  • The company is registered at company house though (doesn't mean much I know) and there must have been some customers by now.

If the hydrogen gas improves fuel efficiency surely there is something to that?

There are 100% efficient gas fires out there, though most of us put up with considerably less - just gets me wondering.

What this company are offering is not a hydrogen fuel cell.
A hydrogen fuel cell is a way of producing electric power from hydrogen in a much lighter weight compact package that something like lithium ion batteries for electric vehicles.
One day, when the problem of obtaining hyrdrogen from water in an economically viable and energry efficient way becomes available, we will be driving electric vehicles powered with hydrogen fuel cells beyond the few prototypes around today.
Current methods of obtaining hydrogen on sufficent scale require far too much electric power to be viable, but there are other ways under investigation.
    About hydrogen fuel cells:

Bacteria producing hydrogen in this article:

I've been subscribed to a hydrogen fuel cell news letter for about the last 5 years.

It sounds too good to be true, don't you think?
One of the problems with real Hydrogen cars, is that you have to use LOADS of energy to seperate the hydrogen out, which is why hydrogen cars are so useless at the moment.

I remember seeing a prototype hydrogen generator that would be small enough to fit in the corner of a standard garage. The idea was you could leave it running on mains electricity generating hydrogen from water. This could then be used to fuel a hydrogen powered car. Not sure what happened to it though.

The other thing is I'm not sure fuel cell technology is advanced enough to reliably provide the sort of power required for a car in the space available. Cost of production is also a major factor. could this be why there aren't any production fuel cell powered cars around at the moment?

Others are correct, it's an out and out scam. All you really need to know is that at the bottom of their 'How it works' page, they blame a conspiracy theory for the reason that it's not included as standard on manufactured cars!

Again, the huge amount of energy required to generate hydrogen from water isn't returned efficiently when the hydrogen is burnt.
