I saw a mattress (possibly made by Yorkshire beds?) that was 2 sided. 1 side supposedly cooler for summer and the other side warmer for winter. Is this just another sales gimmick0

I have just ordered a harrison mattress and that has a warm winter side and a cool summer one.
should be here in 2 weeks will report then.

Make sure you turn the two season mattresses more often than twice a year. With our climate in this country the weather gets warmer then colder quite often, so try and turn it over as the weather changes to make it last longer.0

crikey! who knew how much of a minefield buying a new mattress would be?!
i spent nearly ALL of yesterday online searching & researching....:o
off to have a 'feel' later today , but i 'think' i've narrowed it down to a couple at the moment (although the maker Highgrove has been thrown at me from nowhere so i need to have a look around on them now too).
we're looking for kingsize, pocket sprung, quite firm, 2 sided & it will be used with a memory topper that we've already got & are very happy with (about 2.5" & good density). budget up to £500.
Gainsborough/Windsor Bed Company - Raphael 1250 around £400 online
(also from the same company, Contessa Backcare or Crown Firm). i know Windsor are now part of the Airsprung Group (with Hush) but they do still seem to be recommended.
Millbrook Mirage 1400 special offer at £329 but it is only a medium rating so would need to test one (are these still an independant or in a group now too?).
Highgrove Savoy 1200 seems cheap! comes with 5 year guarantee (for what it might be worth)
Highgrove Mayfair 1500

a bit of advice i was given is to try the mattress first. most people lie on there back when trying a mattress and end up buying a mattress to firm. one should lie on your side and choose a mattress that keep the spine straight hence no back ache. i wish i listened when a bought my last mattress0

OH had to work today so not able to go & have a 'play'
time on my hands & i've just confused myself now!
Millbrook Mars 1700 online price at 3 or 4 places £559-£569, also £569 @ sleeping solutions BUT they have 20% cashback with quidco AND a 4% discount code at the moment!! so it would be £437! seems like a heck of a bargain, am i missing something?!0 -

It is good to get an idea of they type of mattress, and the firmness by trying one out. However this only gives a very rough idea, and you need to sleep on one for a few nights to know for sure if a mattress is suitable for you. So make sure the seller has a good return policy.0 -

I don't know who the other few sellers were, but the Sleeping Solutions price isn't cheap, it's just closer to the price that it should be. And that's even taking into account that Millbrook are expensive.0 -
i did a bit more searching yesterday & couldn't find the Mars 1700 kingsize any lower than £559 online. i've spoken to a local Millbrook stockist today & they can get one for £525 delivered (which is still £88 more than sleeping solutions after Quidco).
however, i've just come back from this same local shop & after having a bit of a bounce around on various Millbrooks, have completely changed my mind & gone for a Jupiter 2000!
again, online i can't find it any cheaper than around £749, the same as sleeping solutions, but with a discount code of 6% brings it to £704 & then 20% back thru quidco = £563. it's a bit more than i'd intended, but you only live once!0 -
We just purchased an expensive Hypnos pocket spring mattress and I don't regret the price I paid. It is hypo-allergenic and made with all natural materials including cotton, wool and cashmere for the more expensive models.
It's loaded with pocket springs which gives a wonderful night sleep.
I would never buy a cheap mattress considering that I spend 1/3 of my life in bed and I would rather spend this money rather than walk around like a zombie during the day because I couldn't get a good nights sleep.
I would allocate at least £500 - £1000 for a decent mattress and stay away from the cheap junk if you can. If you suffer with a sensitive back, you'll agree with me.0
