Faulty Vodafone handset & warranty?

Hello,
I bought a Nokia 2630 last December. The alarm started to play up, so I took it in to Vodafone & it was sent for repair under warranty in May. They upgraded the software which they said would sort it out. Unfortunately, when I went to collect it, it had got scratched when away for repair! So, it was immediately sent off again.

When I went back into store again on the date advised, the lady asked if I'd received a text to say it was ready?? Hmm, you have my phone... They had problems finding it. First of all, they said it hadn't come back in & then that I had already collected it! And no, they weren't talking about the first time.
It was finally found, & to my dismay it had some more minor marks on the back. When I immediately went back in, they said they'd send it off again. However, with no spare phone I needed it & just didn't want to risk it getting scratched yet again.

Last week, here we go again... the alarm goes off one morning only once with no repeat. Then the next day fails to go off at all. Unreliable alarm again.

To be honest, I've been putting off visiting the shop due to the service before.
I went in today & they said they would send it off again.
However, I told them that my concern now is what if they fail to repair the fault & it happens again once it's out of the warranty period? Can I have a new phone now? They only replace with a new phone if the fault is within 28 days of purchase. So, the sales assistant said all I'd need to do is bring it in, they'd send it for repair again & I pay them £40 as it's out of warranty. It only cost £30 new...

I thought I'd misheard her first of all. Sorry, I understand it'll be out of the warranty period, but what about if it has the same fault??
She went on to repeat stuff about how long a warranty is for etc. I understood all that, but felt like she wasn't listening to me.

I also asked is it likely to get scratched again whilst away? She said mine's the only one that has got scratched. I couldn't help myself from saying, "What, forever?" Which I know is sarcastic, but it just came out.

Has any one had similar problems, i.e. faults not resolved getting close to the end of the warranty period? I came away feeling frustrated & unhappy with Vodafone customer service yet again.

Warranty is usually 1 year for most phone, if you are out of that period then you end up paying. Given price of the phone, just get another cheap phone and save yourself all the hassle.
  • Hi, OneADay, thanks for your reply.
I agree with what you say, but it's just the fact that it could be for the same fault which Vodafone didn't sort out within warranty...
  • If the fault has not been fixed then it should still be repaired. Only new faults would not be covered.

But i agree for the hassle you are having, i would buy a more reliable phone.

Someone on here sent there phone away 4 times and still faulty after all the returns, they were then given a new handset.

There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies
