What to do when my contract expires....

Hi people,

Some assistance please.
My Flext 30 contract is due for upgrade in about 2 weeks and I'm in a conundrum what to do.

I'm currently with Carphone Warehouse, who, for a variety of reasons I can't wait to get shot of. I think I'd get better service going direct through a network.

So, I pay £30 for Flex 30 and £5 on top of that for internet. My current usage is max 500 minutes a month and no more than 100 texts a month HOWEVER I'm having a baby in January so expect my usage to go up...although I'm struggling to predict by how much! We don't have a housephone at home so our mobiles are our only point of contact.

I have a Samsung Omnia at the moment but am fed up with it as I struggle to text on the touchscreen. I also am planning on loosing the internet access (unless it's free!) so don't really "need" a phone like I have (and would ebay it). I would like a touchscreen phone but also a keypad. The Nokia N97 is out as the tariffs are too expensive (don't want/can't afford to spend more than £25 a month on a tariff) but I've seen the LG GD900 Crystal which I quite like the look of - and has touchscreen, keypad and a decent camera.

I've seen some decent tariffs on esave for the LG phone, but am wary to go into a cashback deal with a new baby on the way. I'm sure I'll have enough on my plate without having to worry about sending bills off by a certain date etc!

I could, of course, keep the Omnia and just go Sim-Only which would be miles cheaper, but I'm desperate to get rid of the Omnia.

Yes I'd love the LG Crystal but that's not the be all and end all. Decent camera would be nice so I can snap those all important baby pics at a moments notice without having to search out our digital camera! Again, touchscreen isn't the be all and end all but I'd like it. Would like to steer clear of any Sony Ericsson "W" phones as have had 3 different models in succession with problems!

T-Mobile don't offer the LG Crystal and from what I read on here, their retentions department don't bend over backwards to keep you.

I don't care what network I'm with, providing I have a tariff and phone that meets my needs, especially if the contract might be for 24 months.

So, does anyone have any advise on what to do? Oh yeh, congrats for getting this far!!!

Thanks

Sarah

First thing is, if your contract initial period ends in 2 weeks, is to give notice or get your PAC code as (a) from the posts it is easier to get chewing gum off a shoe than to get away from CPW and (b) your contract keeps on rolling along till you do. (You probably know that already)

As you don't know what your usage will be in the new year, I suggest you go Sim only till you find out and a £10 phone till then.

Just to clear up any confusion...

Although CPW may have been the delaer that processed your connection you are not 'with' them per se. You are already direct with the network and any upgrade, PAC request, or disconnection request can be done via T-Mobile.

CPW could process an upgrade for you but they will not be able to issue a PAC or handle any disconnection request.

I am not sure you are 100% correct, Moley. Although I hasten to add that I don't have personal experience of this, I believe that some O2 network contracts were actually through CPW as the service provider and it is CPW that you need to cancel those contracts with. (I have only gleaned this from some older posts on this forum and may be wrong, though)

Yes that is true for O2 CPW connections. But the OP has a T-Mobile contract (Flext 30).

Tesco? I know their unlimited thing is £30 (I know it's a little more, but it's unlimited calls AND texts) They may have some better lower spec phones (and if you are related to someone who works there, they may be able to help you get a bit of a discount)
