Anyone throwing a Windows 7 party?

In a strangely creepy and ultimately cringeworthy move, Microsoft want people to host [strike]tupperware[/strike] Windows 7 parties, where we can all gather together with some cheese and crackers to discuss how great Windows 7 is, and introduce it to our friends - "it's a lot like throwing a party with Windows 7 as an honoured guest".
Don't forget to check out the "host help videos" and "party favours".
Just try not to barf while you're watching them.
Lame.

Not dissimilar to the loons who queue all night waiting for a new Macintosh or iPod or OS/X release.
Don't forget all this happens in America - we stolid British have stiff upper lips and don't go in for such unwarranted displays of emotion... :rotfl:

LOL
The story was in the Guardian yesterday, with 4 pages of cynical readers comments such as:-
It's really difficult to type when your mouth is full of puke.

However that kind of fan loyalty is what Redmond dream of! Plus is it any different to people queing up to get the new Harry Potter or a new games console?
I may consider a party for OSX 10.7!!!! :rotfl::beer:In My 'Permanant' Pre-Masters Gap Year

I can't imagine too many people being enthused beyond what's required to get the free copy of Windows 7, and if they were they sure aren't the type of person I'd like to be in at a party with.0

I think an individual's enthusiasm for a company's products, and a company's enthusiasm for their own products, are quite dissimilar.Don't forget all this happens in America - we stolid British have stiff upper lips and don't go in for such unwarranted displays of emotion... :rotfl:

You've never been present at the opening of an Apple Store then.
Maybe it's just hot-blooded Northern Irish types.LOL

Some of those comments are excellent. I particularly liked: "People also talked about Harold Shipman, but it didn't make me join his surgery."
What's with all the wobbly NYPD Blue camera work though?
They should have use a Mac with iMovie's Image Stabilisation plugin.I can't imagine too many people being enthused beyond what's required to get the free copy of Windows 7, and if they were they sure aren't the type of person I'd like to be in at a party with.
The problem for Microsoft is that they aren't cool, have never been cool, and will never be cool. They need to embrace their position as one of the world's necessary evils and get on with it.0 -

It's still computers, it's still software. There's a limit on the perception of what is cool and not. Being at a party and talking about the finer points of making music scores cool points, talking about computers doesn't.0 -
Great. An evening talking about which Anti Virus, Anti spyware and Anti keylogger software is best and whether it'll be compatible with Windoze 7.
My, you microsoft folk know how to party !0 -

Think I might hold a 'PCLinux OS2009 for Photo/Video' party.
I could give away paper penguins, each containing a DVD of the OS with all my bolt-ons (thank god for 'Make CD Image'.
May be I could get Linus Torvuld to sign a few copies?.
On a serious note, Windows 7 certainly looks and behaves a lot better than Vista ever did/will. The loooonnnggg loading time, and memory intensive background tasks of Vista were enough to stop me abandoning XP.
I might see if I can import an upgrade edition from the states, as I have no wish to spend 10 hours backing-up all my data, and reinstalling all the progs I use.Never Knowingly Understood.
