Hi,
Recently been refused for HSBC and Barclaycard credit cards.
Had checked, corrected and rechecked my experian report plus paid the £5.95 for credit scoring and got a maximum score of 999 out of 999!
I thought I would easily get credit, got refused.
Decided to check my Equifax report - This shows a CCJ. This in incorrect and I'm taking steps to get this removed.
Can I go back to Barclaycard and appeal their desicion on the grounds of an incorrect credit report? I don't see any other reason they would have declined me.
Thanks.

The £5.95 you paid for that so-called score would have been better spent having your tea leaves read. At least you would have got a drink as well as a complete meaningless work of fiction !
How is the CCJ incorrect ? Did you get a Default ?
You can appeal their decision, but they're under no obligation to reverse it and they may ask you for evidence to support your appeal, i.e proof of salary, expenditure etc. You need to speak first, then maybe write to the appeals back office.0 -
Maybe, but I've spent literally hundreds if not thousands in interest payment over the years which I wouldn't have had to do if my report was correct. checking it and using every tool available will return dividends for me.
The CCJ was issued 3 years ago and paid as soon as the paperwork turned up. That means it can be cancelled and completely removed from my credit file. I received a letter this morning from the court confirming that.
The main difficulty is that they don't tell you the reason why they decline. I can only assume it's the CCJ as there are no other issues I know of and my salary far exceeds their requirements.0 -

You're right in that once you have paid the CCJ, then it can be removed (removed in the sense of the legality of chasing for money) but it will remain on your credit file as settled for 6yrs, whether you like it or not. Its the way it is - it is still a defaulted payment.
The court wouldn't have said they could remove it from your file - but if anyone can get it removed from your file, it would have to come from the issuing court so thats the best place to start.

Regards to appealing the declines you got, you usually have upto 30 days and the reson for decline, doesn't take a rocket scientist, is the CCJ. That is a fact - no lender will give you a mainstream card like the ones you applied for, although that said assuming you bank with HSBC (or you can't apply) then appeal it in branch and show them you've paid the CCJ etc - they may overturn it (they did with me anyway but I have a great behaviour score with them).
To appeal in writing, have a read here: BEEN DECLINED - Appeal Letter Template
But personally you're wasting your time with a CCJ on your file
Regards to the score - that means nothing, save your money! each lender has their own criteria - the CRA's do not know their acceptance nor do they know each lenders score-cards therefore save your money in future!2010 - year of the troll

CCJ on credit file = practically impossible to get credit via mainstream
Default on credit file = if it's a single satisfied default, then i would think it is worth trying appealing. Any one know anyone who successfully managed to get mainstream credit card after appeal with a CCJ on their files? Not many i bet! Defaults, i would like to think there's a few. After all, it is relatively easy to get defaults on credit files, without knowing! For instance, mobile phone contracts.0 -

Hello stranger
Doesn't matter if you have defaults or CCJ's mate, they are frowned upon and some lenders may accept whilst others may decline - there is no hard rule on this, each lender to their own.
Yes some people with defaults over 3 years old can get accepted, purely because some lenders (such as Natwest) only really score going back 3yrs but others, such as Barclays will look the whole 6yrs.......
Its a pure gamble, look at last year - Citi were accepting any tom-!!!!!!-and-harry for their 'full account' which meant people with defaults etc were being accepted..2010 - year of the troll

Hello,
You can indeed appeal against the decision and have your application looked at by an underwriter. However there are certain time frames in which your application will remain on their systems. If they use experian then this time frame is usually three months. If you can find your rejection letter they should give you the correct contact details. If not ring them and ask for your application reference number. Its worth remembering that credit reference agencies are a month behind real time so you may not see it amended on your credit file for a month. Best of luck0 -

Where you get this duff info mate?
You can appeal within 30 days - not 12 weeks (in 12 weeks a lot can happen, financially!).
The CRA's are almost as spot on as the time (i.e. they are real-time) so if a search was done it'd show the next day for sure. Read here to learn CRA's: Credit Reference Agencies2010 - year of the troll
