New and poor girl - have I got a case??

Hi all
Relly sorry to start ANOTHER thread in what seems like a huge discussion, but am v v v new to this and have never actively tried to challenge a credit card company!
Both myself and my other half think we may have cases - his is v straightforward, took out a loan with Egg few years ago and told had to take PPI to get loan, so think we just need to send the letter on that one - but not so sure on mine!
I took out a card with Egg in 2003 to make use of an interest free period for balance transfers. I only recently startied using their online service and really taking notice of what I was paying (DUH!) and noticed a monthly charge for PPI.
I was really surprised because I knew definitely wouldn't have agreed to this (never do) so called them and they said I hadn't taken it out initally but this had been added about a month later when I did an online balance transfer! So have been paying this for five years...
Raeding through the articles on here I am convinced that this must have been a tick box opt out type thing, that I know got stopped as it is unfair, and think I must have missed it - do I have a case as clearly I didn't want it in the first place, or is this just bad luck??
(I have cancelled now by the way - not sure if makes any difference).
Thank you so much for any advice you can give, am slowly starting on the road to being a top saver and working throuh the debt!
Thanks! x

Hello and welcome

This is fine.;)

For your other half to be told that he "had to take out PPI to get the loan" then that is a reason for mis selling, so I agree that your other half should go for it, just as long as he have not made a successful claim for example: sickness/unemployment etc.

Very costly isn't it?
Did you actually purchase your egg credit card online?

I take it then that your account is still active then?
This way you still have the details.

Yes pre ticked by them is highly likely, so give it a go, you have been out of pocket and said that you would not have gone for it anyway otherwise, there are many reasons anyway, so below is a link with further info to help you through the process of reclaiming.
(I have cancelled now by the way - not sure if makes any difference).
It makes no difference at all.
Thank you so much for any advice you can give, am slowly starting on the road to being a top saver and working throuh the debt!

Right below is the link of Martin's, with guidelines of reclaiming, you will also find a checklist of mis selling reasons and template letters.
You do not have to write the amounts in the letters, or use the templates, you can write in your own words if you want to and use the templates as a guide, with obviously adding your own reasons, also check the checklist as well, in case any of them also occur to you.
They have 8 weeks to respond in full.
Keep at them until they resolve in your favour, or until they issue you with the final decision, which should if eligible the details of the financial ombudsman service (FOS), you should be able to take your complaint to them if your not happy with the final outcome.
I suggest that you post all your letters by recorded delivery as well, this is your proof of posting.
Good luck and please keep us posted and also post up for further help if required.;)

Hi Carrieweb,
With regards your Egg PPI pre-ticked box claim, have a look at this active thread http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1936683 which is currently dicussing this exact same thing, it may help answer your questions, and prevent repetition from people who've already posted things
I have an on-going claim with Egg and am in the same predicament as you.
hope it goes someway to helping
