Appalling that they couldn't give you more notice. Surely they must have picked this us as part of their "risk assessment" some days ago??? Presumably they just thought "We've got one around here somewhere, we'll remember to pack it" and that was it...
mousy
I agree with you, Mousy, that's why I'm so angry! I KNOW she had an inhaler already at school so this will be the second one that has been lost. They SHOULD have checked days ago but clearly they didn't as I had no contact from them asking me to bring another 1 in until this morning - when it was already too late! I really want to type a whole string of naughty words about them, but then this will be deleted!mhollins, so sorry to hear of your plight, how old is your dd, reason i ask is that younger kids usually make friends soooo easily.
If the school closer to you is better academically, I wouldn't hesitate. See how she goes up till easter, but start getting some info about the school that is closer and see if there's any children living near to you that attend that one after Christmas.
Good luck
Hi CraSiEla, DD is 8 but she's really shy. She has lots of friends in her class but 1 girl in particular - they're like siamese twins, completely inseperable!
I am going to look at the other school now - I just can't believe how useless her current school is!
EDIT - just got through to the school. They say she's calmed down now and she doesn't need her inhaler at the moment, but they want me to bring it down now. I explained to them that if I come to the school now then I'm taking her home with me or I won't be able to afford to take her in tomorrow. She didn't even let me finish what I was saying! Just said "Ok, thankyou, byebye" and hung up!:mad::mad:
That decides it for me! There is just no need for rudeness like that! I'm going along to the local school later on and get information from them and try to get DD a trial day to see what its like!0 -

I'm so angry at the moment. I took my DD to school this morning, and 5 minutes after I dropped her off, they rang me to say she can't go on her class trip to the cinema today unless I bring her inhaler into school. As far as I knew, she already had a full inhaler at the school.
I live a 20 minute bus ride away from the school, and when they rang me I was just about to get on the bus. The school are very aware of how far I live from the school, and the fact that I have to get buses there and back, and also how much it costs me for each trip.
I got back home 20 minutes later and rang them back to say I was on my way. They said, "Oh, sorry, it's too late, the other children are walking down to the coach now"
What the hell was the point in ringing me to ask me to bring a spare inhaler when they knew I wouldn't make it in time?! Plus the fact that I'm already paying £8 per day in bus fares. The trip cost me £10 and apparently I won't be getting a refund!
I know it's school policy that kids have to have their medicines with them for trips, but they could use a bit of discretion! The trip is only 2-3 hours but now she is sat alone, really upset and crying, and probably will have an asthma attack now because she's in such a state!
I'm trying to calm down, but I'm just getting more and more wound up!
sorry for interrupting comp but felt i had to reply to this, when you say as far as i knew she had an inhaler, have you checked that it was full at regular intervals, its actually down to the parent to keep track of medications at school and to approach the teacher if you know when a trip or day out is coming up, you cant assume everything is ok or a teacher will sort it, teachers are very busy and may not have realised, could just be a mistake on their part
but agree the behaviour of the school is out of order, i would speak to the school and ask them what went wrong etc and how you can manage it better for future trips
and when she comes home, give her a girly treat, she must be feeling awful at being left out, hope she will be ok xx0 -
im sorry she has had such a dissappointment mhollins, how is she with her inhalers is it possible for her to keep one permanently in her schoolbag? that way you can check its there regularly and school deff have one in case of need.0

You need to get in touch with the department for schools at your local town hall and make a complaint, they should not just put the phone down on you when your talking to them, either that or speak to the head, another way is if your are in the PT association. Somethings got to be done about their attitude

Hi PrincessPixiedust,
I said as far as I knew because the school have lost a full, brand new inhaler before. DD rarely needs her blue inhaler. The one that is supposed to be in school now was only opened 2 weeks ago and should last for at least a few weeks yet.
I don't want anyone to think I'm placing more importance on the cost of travel to the school than on my DD's health - we are so close and I'd do anything for her. I'm just so angry that it seems the school have lost her inhaler AGAIN
I'm really sorry to everyone, I didn't mean for this to take over the Magic thread
EDIT: When I go to pick her up, I will be having a chat with the headmaster. I'm really upset that this has happened again, and at the rudeness of the secretary.
I'm also going to lay on a girlie night for her - whatever she wants for tea (no doubt egg soldiers) plus munchies from the goodie cupboard, and her pick of what to do for the evening. Hope I can cheer her up!
Thankyou all so much for your help!0 -
