  • Morning all, hope we have some winners from this today!

I'm so angry at the moment. I took my DD to school this morning, and 5 minutes after I dropped her off, they rang me to say she can't go on her class trip to the cinema today unless I bring her inhaler into school. As far as I knew, she already had a full inhaler at the school.
I live a 20 minute bus ride away from the school, and when they rang me I was just about to get on the bus. The school are very aware of how far I live from the school, and the fact that I have to get buses there and back, and also how much it costs me for each trip.
I got back home 20 minutes later and rang them back to say I was on my way. They said, "Oh, sorry, it's too late, the other children are walking down to the coach now"
What the hell was the point in ringing me to ask me to bring a spare inhaler when they knew I wouldn't make it in time?! Plus the fact that I'm already paying £8 per day in bus fares. The trip cost me £10 and apparently I won't be getting a refund!
I know it's school policy that kids have to have their medicines with them for trips, but they could use a bit of discretion! The trip is only 2-3 hours but now she is sat alone, really upset and crying, and probably will have an asthma attack now because she's in such a state!

I'm trying to calm down, but I'm just getting more and more wound up!

  • Thankyou for the suggestion Toni, I will try, but I don't think they'll let me as she had 2 days off school last week so we could go to the St Trinians 2 premiere. I just feel so bad for DD and guilty that I couldn't get there in time. And so angry at the school as they have lost one of her inhalers before, so I had to pick her up early because she was having an attack!
There are schools closer to home and I wouldn't have to pay bus fare every day to get her there. I only kept her in that school when we moved house because she'd only just settled in and made friends and I didn't want to uproot her again. Now I'm beginning to change my mind. The teachers are good - she's learnt so much since she's been there. But their admin side is absolutely useless!

Appalling that they couldn't give you more notice. Surely they must have picked this us as part of their "risk assessment" some days ago??? Presumably they just thought "We've got one around here somewhere, we'll remember to pack it" and that was it...

mhollins, so sorry to hear of your plight, how old is your dd, reason i ask is that younger kids usually make friends soooo easily.
If the school closer to you is better academically, I wouldn't hesitate. See how she goes up till easter, but start getting some info about the school that is closer and see if there's any children living near to you that attend that one after Christmas.
    Good luck
