Moving house, move sky, new sky, new virgin or Another?

Advice needed, what to do:

My financee is moving into my house soon.
She's currently on sky and coincendently the 12months will be passing just before she moves in, so the question is what to do.

I currently have BT phone, Broadband on 1month notice from metronet (plusnet now)
these cost around 12+15=27 per month on average.
She is on thee mix package paying around 25 i think a month. (not worried about the sports/movies packages)

The question is what to do when we move all under 1 roof?

Is it worth going for complete packages from sky or virgin? If so, how do we go about negotiating it?
Do we ring sky and cancel? then ring and buy
Do we ring house moving and sort out new deal?

Is it better to go with Virgin for an all in, or Sky? or stick with a mix?

The only difference we really want from existing is the option to be able to record, so xxxxxx+ would be good, though toying with the idea of HD, but not sure the 10 a month is worth it from sky if only for the "basic packages" ie not movies or sports as not subscribing to them.

Really I suppose the big question is, how do we approach sky when we move? We can go for new customer on new address, or simply I can apply? or go for retentions?

I know it's lots of questions, just am lost as to what to do really as don't want to get conned into a contract for something more than it's worth or good value.

  • Hello,

I moved from Sky to Virgin Media and I can tell you that I prefer Virgin Media to Sky.

One of the great features about Virgin Media is their V+ HD box. This box is only £49 and there is no monthly charge, if taking on the XL package. With V+ HD, you can record 2 programmes whilst watching another, unlike Sky where you can only record 1 programme whilst watching another.

Virgin Media also offers on demand, which Sky doesn't. For more details, visit the Virgin Media website.
  • Just need to check that you get what you pay for with Virgin. We signed up so that we could access on demand (assured that we could) then found that we couldn't in our area and that the area has never been able to. Were eventually told that, and that they have no idea if we will ever be able to.
