What I would do is get a prepaid dongle which you could use while waiting for the more permanent system to be set up. The dongle will come in handy at some time anyway - I have three (long story) and found it really handy when we go on holiday. It's not fast broadband, but it is faster than dial up and it should keep him working in the handover period.

Brilliant, thanks everyone. I think we'll look into dongles and see what the situation is with the neighbours...asking them obviously! Thanks.

Our system with Virgin was up and running two days after the move. It could have been scheduled the day of the move or the day after but we wanted a little time to settle in.

I was in a similar position to OP. BT promised the earth and things went wrong- no broadband for over 3 weeks. Probably not their fault- there are so many variables in setting up broadband.

    I survived on 3G-broadband-over-my-Nokia.

Get the dongle- the risk just isn't worth it.
  • You can do whats called a Sim Provide. It means the same day your phone line is provided you also have your broadband. It costs around £100 extra to do this however.

We did ask BT about the sim provides, but unfortunately our current providers don't offer that. Looks like our only option will be a dongle.
