Shocking lack of capitalisation in people's PayPal addresses!

Hi there! I'm a seller on eBay and I frequently receive payments from people who don't capitalise their addresses on PayPal.
I don't mean ALL CAPS like that, I just mean people who do this:
fred smith
12 street road
town
ab1 2cd
I know this might seem petty to some, but to me there really is no excuse for not capitalising your own name (!) and your address, town and postcode. Since I don't trust the Royal Mail as far as I could throw them, I always ensure I properly capitalise postcodes in case of mis-interpritation of letters by them.
I hope someone agrees with me - call me petty if you like, but it's honestly a joke if people are so gramatically inept that they don't even know to capitalise their own names anymore.
Rant over!

It annoys me too as that is an unnecessary job for the Seller when addressing the package - but what I do is copy and paste the address into Word, then select the Format tool and go to 'Change Case' where I select 'Upper Case' - the I simply use the result to print the address label.
This is better for overseas addresses too as there are more strict regulations about the address format to some countries, e.g. Canada.
If you have a series of USA addresses you can also use the 'Edit' 'Replace' tool to change 'United States' to 'United States of America' (also required by RM nowadays or so I am led to believe!)
Hope that helps.0 -

I'm really pulling out the stops to sell at the moment and have decided not to capitalise addresses any more as I just don't have time. I do still capitalise postcodes as I want the item to arrive! but I leave the rest.
Some addresses though are rubbish, in the past two months i have had two complaints from buyers, one who said I spelt their name wrong and it was impolite, the second was that I had misspelt the name of her university town and she thought it was very funny that I got such an obvious place name wrong. I took great pleasure in pointing out that I merely printed labels direct from the paypal address provided:money:

That's not too bad. The ones that drive me round the bend are the ones that go:
fred smith12 street road townab1 2cd. Arg! Or the ones where they have spelt some part of the address wrong and then moan because you spell it wrong too. Sorry, but how is someone who lives in another part of the country supposed to know how to spell some crappy little place they have never heard of?!
None of this surprises me though. We have just started to allow people to apply for jobs via email at work. Yes, we have had emails that look like this:
hi i would like to apply for the job that was advertised in the paper i have 2 alevels and am gr8 at english...0 -
Not only do I properly format all addresses but I also check postcodes on Royal Mail's website.
I also often find that people will use the letter O instead of the number 0.
At the end of the day, it's in my interest to ensure that the address is correct so the parcel gets to its destination.Hopeless by name, hopeless by nature.0 -

No matter how pedantic you think you are, there is always somebody more so. And it's me!
Damn! I proof read my post for errors as well! :P Honest mistake, I promise! Never would I be seen making such horrific apostrophe errors! (OK just joking but well done for spotting that! I'm very glad someone else cares about this!)
And with regards to the "new generation" of so-called "English" speakers: the schools are to blame. I've just sat my Higher English (Scottish "A-Level" type) exam today and the amount of students who walked out after ten minutes, having clearly not even attempted the questions, was really shocking. They aren't motivated enough and most are brought up on "txt-talk" - they could write a 1400 word essay on their Nokia better than they could on paper. I really despair for my generation sometimes!"You're only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it."0 -

It's not the accuracy of their details I'd be worried about - it's just the fact that some people don't feel the need to capitalise their own name, which I find suprising. Although, speaking of accuracy, I saw a seller who had no house number or street suffix (like "road", "avenue" etc.) so I had to double check with him. Honestly, it's as if buyers don't want their own items delivered!"You're only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it."0
