charged for data i didnt use!
i recently went to barcelona for a week and took my blackberry (on o2) with me. i turned off the data connection so i wouldnt get a massive phone bill when i got back. and low and behold i got my bill yesterday and i have been charged for data.
i rang o2 and they said that it shows on the bill that i have used it and will have to pay if i dont want my services cutoff. im a bit miffed to say the least. the best course of action they said was to contact the complaints dept, which cannot be located on the o2 website. get this my bill turned up on the 22nd i had to pay by the 22nd or get cutoff. im now in arrears with this and dont really want to pay for something i didnt use.
oh and the bill they sent me was dated from july (a bill which i got charged for data used abroad too, far too expensive).
so not only have they stung me for something i didnt do, they sent me the wrong bill. i had to log on to the websit to get the correct bill.
they are now asking for £70 that i dont have for services i didnt use!!!
anyone know what to do?
i dont want to default on this but i dont want to pay either!

You'd need to go up the chain and get some one to look at the tap file the other network supplied O2. The usage will be logged along with the IMSI of the handset that used it. Get them to check there hasn't been an error with the usage or the IMSI.0

Standard advice on this is, if you can afford to pay then pay. And deal with the complaint afterwards. As you have contacted O2 im sure it will be noted you are in dispute over the charges and are therefore only paying as good will.
Generally you will need some proof that you did not use your phone, do you have a decent logging application on your phone, i know some Nokia phones record every call + data usage.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0 -
I agree with the above, its not o2 that charge when you use the services abroad, its the network you were logged onto who then pass those charges onto the uk network provider. It can take (worst case) up to 3 months for all charges to be billed also. You need to contact the netork you were using while away to dispute and check the phone details used etc. Also can i say that turning off data will stop internet browsing etc on your phone however even receiving an mms is data. The wrong bill being sent is an issue with o2, however i doubt theres much you can do about it, its just been salt in a wound in your case unfortunatly! Good Luck!10k in 2010 - £350.77 :beer:0
