New Year Resolutions

Hi all and a very happy New Year!
I thought it would be interesting to state our New Year resolutions and then come back to the same post say, 3 months later, to see if we are still sticking to them!
I shall start:
1 - Go vegan
2 - Gradually move to a cash economy (e.g. not reliant on credit/debit cards)
3 - Learn to say no more often (and gain some time for myself)
There, I am done.
Love to all

Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

I'm trying the cash economy one - I'm trying to get a healthy balance in my saving account by the end of the year. I'm trying to get more organised and make more of my stuff at home. We very rarely eat processed food but I'm going to try and make and freeze burgers and pizza etc so if we feel like a takeaway we can have one without the expense! I am hoping to venture into jams and preserves! See you in 3 months!0

HQ - Yes, venture into jams and preserves. It's so easy and so much nicer than shop bought stuff. Will just say it's not always cheaper tho but at least you can control what's in it. ;DMink0

Thanks for the encouragement mink, greatly appreciated. Its more about quality of life and watching what we eat than economy although that would be good too. Its the taste as well - I remember sitting with my parents (RIP) for an evening pelling shallots and making jar and jars of lovley crunchy onions late on - I'd forgotton the true taste of pickled onions until I bought a jar from a charity bazaar - taste sensation!
If you have any tips or pitfalls to avoid please help!0 -
My resolution is to stick to a monthly budget thereby getting us out of debt and actually being able to save, something we havent done for about 8 years.
Using cash as opposed to debit card as I have proved to myself already that this works when budgeting for the weekly shop.
Start recycling, will be ordering my recycling bin soon from the local council, less rubbish in the wheely bin and good for the environment.
Make more healthy meals for my family (already a result of having to economise) and not take the easy option of ready meals.
Good luck girls and boys ;D“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0 -
Mine is to get healthy and to lose some weight!! Very difficult with all these lovely chocs about!
Also to organise our finances in a more sensible way and to get used to living on a reduced income (thank goodness for this site!)Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

Don't make my own onions cos they a bit too strong for my liking. Make chutneys and piccalilli every year. Chutneys great way to use up excess veg of most descriptions. When I make jam I only make one jar at a time, in a microwave. This is better with it having no preservatives in.
PS Sorry Caterina - wasn't trying to hijack your thread ;D
Daren't make any resolutions cos I never stick to them!Mink0 -
This year my resolutions are:
>Sort out my working life...currently have no job but the sort of work I normally do has lost all its appeal and interest and I've had enough for this lifetime. I may in 2006 (when I am 40 eeeek!) go to university and completely retrain. So this year I will be researching my options, making decisions, finding out about access courses and getting myself to be in the right place at the right time. In the meantime I'll have to get a job just so that I can live.
>Work out what I spend my money on! Then get a decent budget going, and use cash rather than plastic
>Fight the flab....though I cancelled my gym membership recently...never went and I know I never will. Running, jogging and/or walking are all free.
>I've made a good start to one resolution already, that's to cook properly, ie from ingredients rather than from packets. I am finding that I am good at it - plus it should help with budgeting and weight control.
>Be better at keeping house. I've joined Flylady.com, and the bits I do are useful...it's just the rest I need to get on with now.
I think with resolutions it's important to remember they can start later in the year or be spread out over the whole year...sometimes they are too tall an order to be stuffed into January.
Good luck with your resolutions everyone.0 -
