Glad i could help, it came to me is such a flash, i was surprised at myself.
and your idea of the velcro is a good one but not sure how expensive it would be to go right round a bed.

You can buy rolls of velcro from sewing shops. And as Toms Mum says she is quite handy with a sewing machine, then she could sew it to the valance.

You can usually get it from the pound shop, so shouldn't cost too much, even if you have to buy several packs

Our wedding presents were planned to be vouchers but now thinking of asking for money towards a new bed

Hi Andy, consider an IKEA bed. We've got a kingsize, and we each have our own mattress. I've got a firm one, OH has a medium one. Had it about 15 years now, and it's still OK though I think my side is getting a bit saggy. But I prob spend a lot more time in bed than most people.

You may need a man with a van to get it home though... We were incredibly lucky as the day we bought it Dad of one of the kids' friends just happened to be there and very kindly transported it home for us in his huge Volvo. :j Sometimes Providence is kind! :j

If it is a cloth base, then you could use nappy pins in the corners. If has wooden legs then put some elastic round the legs and pin it to the valance.

    Hi Andrew.

Sorry to but in, but I should mention that Layezee are the same company as Silentnight. As are Rest Assured, Sealy, and The Pocket Sprung Bed Company.
oh great  i confess i hadn't done proper research! Thanks for mentioning though as now i'll steer clear!

Maggie, checked out ikea but they don't appear to do divan beds with drawers (we really need this as there is simply nowhere else to store towels and bedding!) - plus our nearest ikea is a 150mile round trip. If we could have just a standard bed frame i'd get the one to match our other bedroom furniture. I also saw an ottoman-style sleigh bed where the top (with mattress above) lifts up which would be ideal..but it was way beyond our price range. Maybe i could DIY a ottoman-style bed frame and put a mattress on top...can't be that difficult surely!

Anyway sorry TomsMom to take your thread a bit off track but at least i've been saved from a "silentnight" bed in disguise.

No problems Andy. Just make sure you do enough research on your bed so you don't end up disappointed again.
