AF Teething is a bad time and sometimes they do just need that extra bit of comfort. El has always been a good sleeper but when she does wake (like last nite)I go thru don't pick her up, unless she is inconsolable (possible bad dream) give her a kiss tuck her back in and say goodnight, I then come out the room and if she cries I leave her for up 5 mins then go abck in settle her down again sometimes I need a firm hand on her bum to hold her down sometimes I need to do that for a couple of mins then all the time sushin (sssshhhh) her. this will not all apply to you but the not picking up and just sushing her not speaking but just letting her know your there might be enough just to settle her, or if you rub her and sush her. I found whenevr I allowed El to start sleeping on her front, her choice that is when she started sleeping alot better. Altho at 6 months I think I was still using her blocks to keep her on her side as she wouldn't sleep on her back. Ok I'm rambling now so I'll shut up
i got our dentinox in wilkinsons, i twas about £1 than in boots. we only had a small bit at the front and one application claeared it up.
oh you aren't rambling, i like hearing what others are doing so i can see what i can put together to work for us. i seem to do a bit of what you are suggesting, albeit she is still in the room with me. i am waiting for her to sleep on her front becuase she settles well on me when seh is on her front.
i do try the shussing and it seems to work when she wakes around 10pm - 11pm, but she wont have a bar of it anytime after that.
she has never been a good sleeper, so i dont think that teething is the trigger, but more a consideration now.
thanks for your post, i appreicate it.0 -

Angel, we tried a bit of controlled crying but we weren't rigorous and stern with it and it's questionable how much of a difference it made, it helped for a few days maybe then he seemed to grow into a new sleep pattern anyway. It is not a lot of fun and I wouldn't personally recommend it unless you feel that it's really right for you. There's the baby whisperer's pickup putdown method, Elizabeth Pantley's no-cry method... various other "regimes" if you don't like trying controlled crying. Good luck, it can be so very frustrating
i am not a fan of the controlled crying method but it was mentioned to me by the doc today so it got me thinking. it would be down to me to implement it too as hubby works nights.
i havent' heard i dont think of Pantley's methoday. I am going to google it. I do have a 'kind sleep' program from the health visitor whic is not controlled crying based as it says that is playing on fear.0 -

I basically agree with everything you said; I am not a fan at all, but I ended up being willing to try it over frustration with sleep, other stuff not working for us, and the fact that an awful lot of babies have gone through it without any apparent effects in later childhood. It still feels really - wrong - though, and I wasn't up for keeping going with it when it wasn't making a big clear difference. Apologies to anyone else who has used the method and had success with it

CARLA - I have my mum's microwave jam recipe, sooo easy!!
1lb fruit
1lb sugar
1. put fruit in big microwaveable bowl, micro for 5mins (650watt)
2. add sugar and stir, micro 12mins
3. check its consistancy by either dropping a spoon full into a bowl of ice water or spreading on to a cooled plate it it is still runny after about 20second put it back in for a bit, if it sets then its done!
4 stick in jars

AF, I have always put Poppy & Jamie down awake so I'm assuming they have learnt to settle themselves if they wake through the night. Both have slept through from quite early on - I'm whispering so I don't jink tonight's sleep!
