After I put Rhys down for a nap earlier, I had lunch then went back to him after half an hour to find him chatting to himself. We had twenty minutes of chatting and smiling then I fell asleep on the bed (Rhys still in his crib). Don't know if he got any sleep but at least I did! :D

He's having a nap with Daddy now before they go out - OH going to show him off to some friends - and I'm off to my friend's house in half an hour. Just waiting for her to txt me to say her LO is in bed cos she's home alone overnight and I didn't want to disturb his bedtime and make it harder work for her :)

Planning on deep bubble bath and earlyish night when I get in. For the last few days, feeding lying down has been hurting my back :( Not sure what I'm doing wrong/differently to before but I think it needs some Radox bubbles! ;)

Question for anyone with a tin of forumla handy.. How do you know how much to make up for your LO? Is it done on weight, and if so please can someone give me the calculation? :) In SCBU, we were told it's 150ml of EBM per kg of baby's weight - Rhys is 4kg now so should have 600ml per day - and I was just curious how/if that differed for formula (and will forget to look next time I'm in Tesco!). Muchos ta :)

elle - cow & gate here. it does state weight & approx ages on tin but I just give Jack what he wants, when he regularly finishes a whole bottle I make the next ones up to the next stage. currently on 150ml (5oz) but drinks about 130ml - he is probably around same weight as Rhys (might get him weighed tomorrow)

Jillie - been to ASDA n got vari-flow teats 2 x £3.11 so will sterilise and use on next set of bottles I make up and prepare for dribbles!

I've changed the way I make his feeds up and use the cooled boiled water method now. Must say we are getting more solid poos now which must be a good thing!

Wide awake now and hoping to keep him that way for a few hours so that he sleeps tonight, am hoping the new teats mean he takes more milk and maybe sleeps a bit longer between feeds!
A very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea

Where does the time go?
  • Elle, I haven't seen/followed any guidelines. I just make up and let him drink as much as he wanted. We started at 90ml (3oz) and now on 180ml (6oz). As soon as he starts to drain the bottles empty a few times in a row, I up the amount I make up.

Ta all, just being nebby really :)

Since I posted that, I've just had a call from the comms nurse to say (amongst other things) can we hold off the idea of formula for a while because the consultant is waiting to hear back from the kidney specialists in Nottingham :wall: If I've not heard anything by Thursday, I'll phone her myself!

Theory with EBM is 150ml/kg/day for "normal" SCBU babies, Rhys was on 165ml/kg/day to increase his weight gain (before other problems were found which were hindering his gain anyway) and then 180ml/kg/day to help flush the calcium out of his kidneys. Now that's not such a problem anymore but we've not been told to reduce it specifically. So that's either 600, 660 or 720ml per day, and I'm not all that convinced he's getting it :( Hmmm... :o

Not looking for any answers.. just pondering 'out loud', that's all..
