Hi all, I am just popping over from the pregnancy thread with a probably stupid question:
With the skin on skin that they recommend straight after birth how does that work? This probably sounds really stupid but I was planning on going through labour wearing a old T-shirt and am now thinking if the baby gets put straight on me do I have to take my T-shirt off and expose myself to everyone?? Or should I just be wearing my old dressing gown so can just snuggle the baby inside? It was just one of the many things I have now started thinking about:o
Also I seem to have been given a lot of clothes but no bibs- any recommendations on how many I should need? I currently have 5 but have no idea whether or not I need them?
Any info will be greatly received

Hi Karen,
No advice re skin to skin sorry I had an emergency c-section so I didn't get that until we were back up on the ward and they just pulled my gown down, it formed part of getting DD to have her first BF. If you're still wearing clothes they'll probably just shove baby up your t-shirt.
Bibs - I think I had about 10 but I tended to use muslins instead of bibs.Proud to be dealing with my debts
DD Katie born April 2007!
3 years 9 months and proud of it

Karen, I just whipped off my t-shirt, but by that point I didn't care who saw what, they had already seen enough of me and I was still in stirrups waiting to be stitched up.
How about a button up nighty if you wanted to keep more or less covered?
Bibs - I have only just started to use them, but thats cos Liam is all dribbly, I use muslins when feeding cos the cover more. We also got alot of bibs bought for us0 -

i ended up having a c/sect so had to have a hospital gown on. the gown was pulled down so Kian was next to my skin. mind you at that point he had been away from me for 45 mins (having lots of cuddles-not skin toskin- from daddy. when i was on the ward they put him under my nightie (extra large to do this) with him right on my boobies. so i imagine that is what they would do when you have just given birth. guess it depends onhow comfy you feel showing you boobs. must admit by the end of the labour i would have shown anyone my bits just to get Kian out....
bibs- we use the muslin squares mainly. but we have lots of bibs that are handy to put on but i think we;ll get more use from them when he starts teething and had permanet dribble'Children are not things to be moulded, but are people to be unfolded'0 -

Hi Karen,
Not long to go!! :hello:
I had a cheap nightshirt on for the birth of Holly, and it was drenched in blood. I can't remember having it taken off, but when Holly was born, she was just put onto my chest on the nightdress. Then my nightdress was removed (it was so blooded, I told them to cut it off and bin it but can't remember if that happened!). They gave me Holly back and we had some skin to skin although I still had my bra on, and then they dressed me in a hospital nightdress. So we did have skin to skin, but it wasn't for that long. I guess everwere will be different. To be honest, you really won't care about what you are wearing at that stage (particularly if you have had drugs/pain relief as you are pretty much spent by then).
We are going through loads of bibs and muslin cloths. Holly seems to drink half her bottle and dribble the other half. Not sure if that's normal, but I would certainly invest in some more. I imagine breast feeding will be different, but then I intended to breast feed and it didn't work out so plan for every eventuality! We use 1 bib per feed and feed about 6-8 times per day. We do a lot of washing and it's mainly bibs and muslins.
Hope to see you over here soon!

Thanks for the info.
I have got some front buttoned nighties for breast feeding - but only buttoned down to just under my breasts. I am sure like you say I probably won't care anyway
I have some muslins so won't worry about bibs - its not like I am not going to be able to get some after the birth or anything, just trying to be as organised as poss.Tegan Lily arrived 4 November 2009 (3 days late)
Floyd Peter arrived 9th July 2011 (1 day early)0 -
If you are bottle feeding, about 10 - 15 bibs would be enough, I also use muslins but Dylan has a touch of reflux so they are good to mop up. It really depends on how often you intend to do the washing. I use a new bib every feed, so a newborn will feed approx 6 times a day, yo will need 2 days worth if you want to wash every other day !The two best things I have done with my life

SM - how about this offer for bits for jayden:
from hotukdealsI noticed this today when looking through Argos and thought it was a good offer for anyone buying for little ones this Christmas, especially as Playskool toys currently also have 25% off!
There is a selection of toys to choose from to get the free Busy Poppin Pals but the cheapest is the Playskool Busy Friends doll which is currently at £5.99 reduced from £7.99. I bought 2 of these dolls today so for £11.98 in total I got 2 dolls and this extra toy, which is why I've listed the price as £11.98 although this obviously depends on the toys you buy!0
