Sorry, still lurking a bit here!

Does everyone using formula make up bottles in advance or stick to the guidelines rigidly about making up 1 bottle at a time as and when required? We are making 4 bottles up using boiled water (cooled for no longer than half an hour) and stored in the fridge. Am I normal or a terrible mother??!!

Still trying to decide what is best to do when out and about. I have an insulated bottle holder, but it doesn't keep the bottle quite as cold as the fridge does, therefore not sure how long it is good for (only meant to keep bottles for 1 hour out of the fridge)! It's all so confusing.

Well, from what I have been able to find, the risk is mainly to premature infants and those with immune problems upto 4-8 weeks. After that it gets a bit grey (can't find any cases of full term healthy babies being infected with the bacteria at home).

It seems that all the cases have been in NICU that have used powder.

Personally I sterilise bottles, boil the kettle, make up bottles of water and keep them for 24 hours adding powder when needed.

I've not read anything so far that has made me change that.

Anyway, I'm off to bed, night all!
  • Fitz, before this milk, we made up all the bottles with just water and heated them and added the powder when needed. We are on prescription milk at the minute and they are to be made up in room temp water, which Dylan cant have, so I am making them as and when I need them, cooling the water to just above room temp before adding the powder.
When out and about I used to put a hot bottle in the insulator bag and cool it down as itis easier that heating it up, but each to their own.

When Jas was a baby, the rules were to make them up, fridge them and heat when needed !!

Tia/MM - if you add the powder when needed, have you kept the water in the fridge before you add the powder? I think I am doing what you used to do for Jas MM.

Scruffy - I am in Lanarkshire, halfway between Glasgow and Edinburgh. You in Aberdeen?

Tia, there was one in Europe... Possibly Brussels, can't remember at the minute and can't do links on the iPod... Will try and look tomorrow...
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.
