Hi,
My daughter wants me to put her on a contract for her mobile.
Having heard loads of horror stories about teens running up high bills, I wondered if there are any contracts where you can cap the amount?
does anyone know if this is possible?

Yeah, Tesco have a number of capped deals.
I suspect, though it is not advertised (I believe some were many years ago), that all providers could put a limit on an account. Why do I say this ? Well, they must have a flag which is raised if a certain amount is charged to an account, just as an unlimited Amex card is not really unlimited.
I cannot believe that any software developer would produce software without this capability. However, it may be something which is a permanent fixture but they just don't tell us and may not want to turn it on, so to speak. If this is the case, then Tesco fixed is the only one I know of currently.
I believe Tesco have just introduced a £30 unlimited product but that may still allow you to phone non geographic and non inclusive calls, thus not capping your liability.0 -
ive got 2 phones with virgin for dd and ds.
thay let u set a limit but you have to ask for it lowest i believe is £50..Ignore reality. There's nothing you can do about it.
I have done reading too!

.
The reason why they tend to avoid doing it is as costs don't always occur instantly, vodafone state upto 72 hours, although 24 is usually enough. It would make it in some cases possible to exceed your limit.
Although i don't know how PAYG would work then, as you are charged instantly. So maybe they just play dumb on the contracts :SAlthough no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0 -
T-Mobile don't (well they probably do - they just dont want to enable it).Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0

3 will put a zero credit limit on any account, we sell them all the time to parents just takes a quick call to cs to set up.0

Hi DarkConvict
This really used to confuse me!
There are two seperate systems on the network.
There's one for PAYG which takes the credit as you use it. Even with this system our billing system doesn't know right away what a charge is for and can sometimes take an hour or so to show all the detials.
Then there's a different service for contract as payment isn't taken until your bill is due. You are right that this means we can be up to a maximum of 72hrs behind, although it is rare that it's that long.
I'm glad I could help

Thanks for the details, i always wondered how PAYG worked compared to PAYG.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

why not?when networks like three have instant updates.
I make a phone call, send a text or do a bit of wap browsing and its updated instantly.
Isnt the real reason that networks would make less money if the show people what they are using instantly0
