Generally how soon would you expect to be able to get a new car after ordering?

I spoke to VW and they said 12-16 weeks for a Polo/Golf!

Whereas Toyota said 2 weeks for an Auris!

I would have thought around a month - but what I have been told seems too long and maybe too quick

any opinions welcomed

Normally I would say about 8 weeks although some longer and some quicker.

At the moment the scrappage scheme is skewing a few popular cars.

    Depends on many factors.

Supply and demand being the most obvious both in UK and rest of Europe
How many shifts has the factory cut in the last year or so
Is it a new model or an old model
Is the car popular under scrappage both in UK or Europe
Has the factory shut down for a holiday
Is the factory closed due to industrial action
    Is manufacturer offering special terms
    What colour you want
    What extras you want

What are you driving at OP?

How long is a piece of string.
If its MFR'd in europe and there isn't a waiting list on average i'd guess at 8 weeks.
UK MFR'd is obviously going to be quicker maybe 3-6weeks as there isn't all the faffing about.

But thats not taking into account if there is a queue...in which case it depends erm how long the queue is.
Also if you are ordering a model that they have ready made then it will probably be 1-2weeks.

Just take what the dealer says on face value. They will want you in your car asap so they can get paid. So its not in their interests to tell porkies.

There would be no waiting list for an Auris, I can hardly see them selling out.
  • My Mother In Law has ordered, thru Smackability a rather humbe Astra. It was due to be ready first week in September, but it now wont be ready until late October.
  • dont buy the vw, you will spend lots of time waiting on the dealer to call you once its been in and out of their garage for warranty repairs

are you saying they make lots of them or they won't sell out because something isn't good about them?

You should ring around other VW dealers to see who has one in the closest spec to your order to see if they have one in stock. The VW dealer you spoke to may have used up their allocation.

The Auris, is to be polite, a less than popular car, so 2 weeks for an already built example to be trucked down from Toyota's UK holding dept, PDI'ed etc is about right.

Mmm just like mine that has had.....no warranty visits in 4 years and 55K....

VW are no more or less reliable than most cars, its just that VW have harked on about reliability for so long people have very high expectations
  • VW's are mechanically, sound. It's just all the nonsensical electronics that fail pretty much all the time! Anyone copped for a steering coloum yet...?
