I think that the point I'm making is that if you want reliability and backup you have to pay a bit more...if you want.
Chris, your deal sounds great if it works, you're very lucky to have an exchange that copes with 10mb. Sounds like ADSL2? Also do you still get that at busy times, and how much does it cost when you call the helpline? All sorts of things need taken into account. MSE deals on cheapest don't always work out when things go wrong...it can be a bit of a gamble.
Just to say something is cheapest doesn't mean to say it is best e.g . you wouldn't expect a Fiat to be as long lasting or reliable as a Rolls Royce.....or are they the same company now??

    No, it's via cable.

My 10Mbps VM is a virtually constant 9.6 to 9.8 Mbps.
    Move along, nothing to see.

Same here, happy with the 10Mbit service, as get more or less what you get constantly. Could have 20Mbit or 50Mbit, but at the moment money dictates I keep with the retention offer I have 'for life'.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

Agreed - constant speed is a bonus with Virgin & I get >45Mbit consistently

Virgin's fibre-optic network is well-suited to (designed for, really) very high speed digital communication. BT are struggling to keep up because their old infrastructure was copper wires.
