Broadband advice plz!

Hi guys,

My partner and I are currently with Virgin Media - Broadband only - size L and pay £20 a month (has gone up from £10)- we do not have a landline and have a freeview box.

We are moving flat in around a months time so we have the decision of arranging moving virgin to new address or looking at alternatives...

Anyone got any suggestions?

If a phone deal is included in the package that would be useful i.e free evening and weekend calls. We are not fussed about tv packages....

I've found the talktalk package for broadband and phone.
The offer is for:
"Fast reliable broadband (up to 8Meg)
Huge 40GB download allowance
Unlimited evening/weekend calls to UK landlines
Free local calls
Free evening/weekend 0870/0845 calls"

Its for an 18month contract - the total cost would be £11.25 for first 3 months then £17.74 for the rest of the term.

There is also a connection fee of £29.99

Anyone had any experience with talktalk?

I remember their being phone sockets when we viewed the flat so presume it has a phone line....

I am finding it hard searching for deals as they all have a special rate for say first 3 months, and different hidden connection charges that do not appear in price comparison sites - very frustrating!

If anyone could help it would be appreciated!

I stuck with virgin when I moved after looking at others and reading through the small print - often there are hidden costs - my advice if you like virgin is to tell them you are moving and are thinking of also changing to sky or somesuch - Virgin will make you moneysaving offers to keep you - worth a punt.

depends entirely on what you are after as a package - I have sky, and have their minimum TV package at £17.50 a month, this means I can have their phone package - £11 a month line rental (cheaper than BT), free evening and weekend calls, and I get free broadband up to 2Mb speed (you can pay more for faster and unlimited downloads) hth

and look at the ratings part which is compiled regularly by users.
An important part for me personally was speed, reliability and customer service so I'm not with one of the big names and pay more for this, but that suits.

I started with Virgin simply because I cannot get more than about 2.5Mb from any ADSL line. I was (and remain) happy with them. After about 6 months, Virgin offered me a deal whereby if I added a phone line with them, the total price actualy dropped (so I now have a fax line).

I use Talktalk for my phone simply because I make a lot of international calls and they seemed my best option. The "free" broadband they offer works fine too but not very fast due to line length (yes I have 2x broadband connections)

I had nothing but nightmares with TalkTalk broadband, so managed to leave after just over a couple of months. Have Virgin cable broadband and wouldn't move now - but then I have a deal for life, so makes the price pretty good too.

I had Freeserve (remember?) but later too many customers was more than they could handle. I had Virgin...problems and poor customer service, so I pay a bit extra for Idnet. No call centre and free help, no throttling etc.
My mate has Talk Talk much cheaper but which I've heard bad things about... and he has had no problems at all. Lucky beggar!!!! but I suppose its pay or take your chances

Personally I would stick with Virgin, they have a more stable BB service than any other at present, but the customer service is just as bad as the rest of them.

I had a real nightmare with talk talk vowed i would never go back to them ever again went with Pipex Homecall brilliant then they sold out to Tiscali ok i thought then Tiscali sold out to Talk Talk :eek: cant wait for my contract to end, but saying that who else does 8meg Broadband, Line Rental & Free Anytime Calls for £19.99 a month i dont have cable here.

Virgin's broadband technology seems better than the others. I suggest cancelling the contract, then pick them up again as a new customer (and take advantage of the new customer deals they offer). Actually, if you tell them you're leaving, they will almost certainly want to know why. Have BT's new customer offers to hand or any genuine complaint you may have from past experience with Virgin, and they will offer you a good deal to stay with them.

Hi, I recently renegotiated my Virgin Media deal - 10mb broadband, eves and weekend calls and line rental - for £20.00/month, which I don't think is too bad...:)
