Thanks again. My cousin's car is pretty small, so I'll have to check how feasible it would be! My dad, who frequently visits me and has a nice big car, considers Ikea to be hell on earth and refuses to set foot anywhere near the place, unfortunately

Another way of getting it home is to phone your local cab firm after you've got it and ask them to send a 7 seater to pick you up outside the entrance..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

i often drop the wife off at IKEA and then go for a drive/pint/smoke/coffee. or home.
then i collect her when she rings me. about 15 minutes away.
i cant stand the place.
you need a map/compass/flask/sarnies to walk round it.Get some gorm.0 -

Don't go through Norbury when you come down the main road from IKEA. TUrn right instead at Thornton Heath pond, through Thornton Heath (my old "escaped from to kent" neighbourhood"). Far less traffic, straight up Green Lane, back onto Streatham High Road but then turn off it to the right (can;t remember the road sorry) and you can go up the side roads sort of parallel to SHR to get back up to Brixton Hill area.
I know this after many hrs of sitting in traffc on Streatham High Road! Also try and get there for when they open if going at the weekend as the queues are bearable. The Saturday afternoon queue is an absolute nightmare never to be done again! The web site says that the bookcase weighs 44.5kg. That is nearly as much as a bag of cement. I don't think you will be taking that on the bus.I can afford anything that I want.
