NewNet Cancellation

I am cancelling my NewNet account. It is too expensive, very slow, and unrealiable.
NewNet have advised me that to cancel I must pay a BT cease charge £21.40 + vat “which is applicable to everyone and this is due to be increased at the end of the month”, 1 months notice period, and also £8.82 + vat “which is the difference between the discounted setup fee you paid for.”
In total £49.61 to cancel my NewNet account. I have been a NewNet user for some years.
Is there really a BT charge to disconnect broadband? Is it normal for ISPs to treat people like this, or is this just something NewNet does.

I have moved house and have a new phone number. Do I have to cancel or can I migrate?0

Treat people like what? Its normal. Its up to you. =\0

Cancellation will cost the same as 4 months broadband usage. This maybe "normal" in the world of ISPs, but it is a rip-off in the rest of the economy.0

If you have moved house, you may find it's not slow and unreliable anymore.
If you are saying it is slow and unreliable at your current address, I guarantee you it will be slow and unreliable with any ISP you go with.
If that's the case, speak to NewNet's tech support and ask them to run some line tests. Explain your having problems & they'll be able to get to the bottom of it eventually.0
