moved threads

Options
Looking around the other boards, I see things like "daily chat" threads, where people are discussing plans for the day (taking the kids to nursery, gardening, whatever). Surely these threads are off topic/not within the realm of the board, yet they seem to be allowed to prosper.

At the same time, threads on this board have to be very extremely (at times) on topic, & can be moved even if they meander a little. I have seen some debate about the appropriateness of moving some of these threads. If they're completely OT, or against the rules of the forum then I have no issue with them being moved.

Just wondering whether anyone has any thoughts as to why the difference?....
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

because they wan't to close this board down.........................
  • because a thread like that on here turns into a bunfight?
because this board is "different" to the others?
because threads like that are SO dull and we would all die of boredom reading them instead of the usual more interesting ones on here?
(I favour reason 3 myself! Can't stand them!)

chucky - see what you mean but - looking at it a different way - if "they" allowed these kinds of threads on here, they probably would descend into insults and chaos, which would then give "them" an excuse to close the board down. its like the board is in a straitjacket, but just to stop it harming itself...

Actually, all the 'chatty' threads on here always seem to stay pleasant and non-hostile; it's only house prices that get people wound up.

Understandably, when potentially hundreds of thousands of pounds are tied up in the results of the arguments.

When people are just chatting about weather/hobbies/family/whatever, they tend to be much more pleasant.

So I don't think they're moved because they're too inflammatory.

Not really sure why they're moved.

Maybe someone is worried about people actually agreeing with each other?

Soe of us are guilty for taking threads off topic and chatty in attempt to diffuse hostility:o so often the nice bits follow less nice bits. Do you rmemeber when we used to exhange recipes forthe same reason. Gen once shared a shrimp recipe I never worte down.

I use the same method LIR, if a thread is looking to be descending into arguements, I usually put one of my little off the wall posts up and it sometimes calms things down a little.

I enjoy our occasional chatty threads, you can get to know the person better, their reasons sometimes for their stance on the serious threads and it just would not work with trying to do that in DT or the Arms for example...it wouldn't blow away the steam or allow us to get to know the real people behind the regulars.

It also gives new users to the House Price board the chance to see that we are not all weird, stroppy types* and can help introduce them slowly (and gently!) to the board....they can join in and get to know people without fear of their opinions being questioned.

*Well people keep saying we are a scary, non friendly board!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I agree with everything, but especially this bit.

I've grown fond of people, like you, through such diversions. Makes me more sympathetic to different PoV and opens my eyes a bit to someone else's experiences.
