  • Good old Halifax - they magically produced statements for a current account and a savings account, for the period in question - and yes, I did receive a cheque from SW for the amount stated on the date stated.

I honestly cannot remember this - but the bank statements prove it!

So I have to bow out of this forum now, hanging head in shame, and wondering where I spent the money :-)

I queried mine, but before I got the reply, I was hunting down old statements, as I was CONVINCED I had never had the money.

At the time I was a single parent (well still am) but I was convinced I would have remembered a lump sum.... but instead of statements, I found a letter, from scottish widows, which stated cheque was attached, which was of course removed... so I too have to hang my head in shame, being convinced that there was NO WAY I would have forgotten a windfall cheque. But I did. And no, I don't know what I spent it on, but I would have been in debt at that time, had lost my dad around the time and had a 3 year old, so I suppose I have reason!
  • well i am not sure if i feel happy or sad,now that i know i am one of many who never recieved the demutulisation pay out.
what has made it worse is i have been in contact with them weekly for a month now spent hours on the phone getting to the bottom of this and only to find out today the woman i was dealing with left the company today and guess what, you all guessed she had not done anything with my account now i have to start from scratch again.

quick question ,i am looking at common denominators here any one else who didnt get paid out does your last name begin with B or did you all have frozen policies, just trying to think of a reason as to why this has happened.
  • I have had a lengthy reply from SW following a phone call from one of their team. I was able to make my complaint to him and he was very nice and listened. However the reply simply repeated what he had said although I did at the time tell him I didn't get the cheque and had my bank statements to prove it. He stated the cheque had been issued and the records showed it had been cashed although he was unable to furnish me with details of where and by whom. I mentioned when I spoke to him that I felt there was a case of fraud having been committed and he said the police would not be interested as the statute of limitations had expired and the Financial Ombudsman was not there to deal with situations lik this. They only deal with cases of " bad practise". What is this if not "bad practise"? I have now to write again to the Ombudsman and express my dissatisfaction with the correspondence from Scottish Widows. We shall see what, if anything come from that.

I'm really very embarrassed to admit this but put in my request, had a letter notifying me of the date and amount of the cheque.

Lo and behold there it was in black and white on my statement. I'd even written 'Scottish Widows' next to the payment !

    Well Im really confused now!
If SW was taken over and Ive been "paid" off which I havent, why then did I recieve a statement off SW today stating what my pension was at?, havent heard from them for years?
  • I to join the many on here that were told that they were issued with the famous phantom cheque and then informed that the same phantom had cashed it, I surely would have remembered recieving 5500 pounds in August 2000 when I had just been made redundant.
I have been to the Financial Ombudsman who informed me that SW had been in contact with them and said that the F.O. were not enpowered to deal with such matters so the F.O. said there was nothing they could do for me.
There is obviously a case to answer here this must mean that a legal joint effort be made, and all areas of the Financial world and Media be made aware of this disgusting fraud based caper(if SW are reading this I suggest you sue me then we can all have a day in court).
I would be very glad to hear anybody else's views on this matter or even if they have had any success.

Did you all suddenly get paid out and forget to mention your success on this site ?
I think it more likely that SW's stonewalling, together with the Ombudsman's refusal to pursue the matter, ground everybody down.
The campaign was not helped by those who discovered that they had 'overlooked' or 'forgotten' the receipt of a large sum of money.

It would have been nice to have had some success in this matter, there is no doubt in my mind that something went terribly wrong during this period with SW.I have gone down all the avenues in pursuit of this large sum of money of course without success. I am in full agreement with your comment as to stonewalling, and quite rightly there are some clowns out there that overlooked or even forgot large sums of money being paid to them (obviously have to much money). So far it appears very profitable for SW and its Agents, is their anybody still out there willing to bring these peoples actions to the forefront even if we all feel ground down.
  • Silly I know but I have only just found paper work concerning this that I should have sent. I had moved house and a neighbour had hold of this letter stating compensation and has only just given it to me 11 years late :(

Guess its to late for me now to get anything
