Renting new house, lock on door seized.

I'd be very careful who reports the sticky lock. Some Landlords don't allow overnight 'guests' without their prior agreement. You may get her locked out almost before she can be locked in.I may not have thanked you but I meant to, honest!0

Well, thanks for your hilarious responses. You wouldnt have faulty electrical equipment, so why would you have faulty DANGEROUS locks. Sorry for showing some concern. However perhaps the landlord should ensure the locks are in good working order?
Should have known not to ask for advice here. Extremely arrogant, pig headed, and a waste of time.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

Tenants are allowed to have people to stay, despite what a landlord does or doesn't want.RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

I agree that the fact this happened is dangerous, however until the lock actually breaks it's quite difficult, as you can't actually see it, to tell whether there's anything wrong with it.
Was that the first time your GF had locked the door? If she or you had locked it before and noticed that there might be something wrong with it then I would suggest that it should have been her responsibility to report that there was something wrong with it.
Having been stuck in a bathroom before, if I'm somewhere with a new, unfamiliar lock I try locking and unlocking it a few times without the door closed just to make sure that I can actually get out or in again...
When I was at boarding school, a girl went to try and get back into her room (we didn't have keys as we weren't allowed to lock our doors however the doors did have chubb-style keyholes) and she couldn't get in as the whole mechanism had collapsed. Luckily she was on the outside, but I remember that she had to sleep on someone else's floor as they didn't get maintenance out to fix it until the next day...
EDIT: maybe I was lucky but I never felt the need to lock my door at uni, mind you I was living with friends and people that I trusted.**Thanks to everyone on here for hints, tips and advice!**:D

Tell the LL, and see about getting a replacement. For now, ask him what to do about security when she's not there (i.e, can she put a bolt and padlock on until it can be fixed) and ask if they want to do it, or if it's an easy one and you know how to, if you can do it. And make sure they get a spare key if they need to do an inspection** Total debt: £6950.82 ± May NSDs 1/10 **** Fat Bum Shrinking: -7/56lbs **

I do it all because I'm scared.
