Recommendation for phone that's good at picking up signal

Dear all, I'm just about at month 15 of a 18 month contract so am beginning to look around for where to go next. There are millions of things about my current phone that have caused me problems (the screen has pretty well died now) and one of those is I hadn't realised that some phones were better than others at picking up the signal. A previous phone (Orange smartphone) allowed me to talk nearly anywhere in the house but if anyone rings me on my current phone (LG Viewty) I have to rush outside into the garden. I can only get Orange where I live so will have to continue with them - I'm a bit out in the sticks here.

Can anyone recommend a phone that is perhaps a bit more sensitive than others about picking up a signal?

I'll probably spend the rest of the day reading up on here about getting a new contract, normally I just go direct to Orange but will also investigate other offers. Are there any phone plus mobile broadband offers around? I have only seen ordinary broadband which I can't get here.

Thanks

DS

I agree about the sony ericsson phones, my sister had bad reception on 3 with a nokia 6500 slide and they exchanged the phone for a s.e. C510 and it holds a signal far better than the nokia she had;)

Complete reverse experience for me - my very old nokia 6100 which i keep as a back up phone gets much better reception in my house on Orange than my newer sony erricsson w890i.

And thats with 3g either on or off - the sony erriccson is always dropping calls!

Try the Nokia E71 or HTC Magic on Vodafone, there are some brilliant deals being offered for those phones, even new connections. Both phones have fantastic reception quality.

Read the following thread for more info on these deals. http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=25326809&postcount=3

  • I had a Nokia 6233 which worked great in my house and now I have a Nokia 6300 which I have to go into the garden to accept calls on.
