buyer has opened paypal dispute

i sold an item on 28th april, it was posted on 2nd may.

the buyer says he has not received the item and has started a paypal dispute.

i have proof of postage but the buyer did not pay for a recorded service.

the only option paypal seems to give is that i refund money, but i don't want to do that as i have posted the item and i think the buyer is lying.

what can i do?

Unfortunately it remains your responsibility to ensure delivery, not posting of the item. You cannot win this dispute, so refund now and reclaim your losses direct from the Royal Mail.

such a pain!! i know how you feel..

1 sol) if you have over 50 feedback, i think that u can get paypal to sort out the PAYPAL BUYER PROTECTION.!
or you can refund and the buyer is laughing all the way to the bank with ur money and the item!! and you can claim to Royal Mail for compensation

Remember that the recorded service is for the protection of the seller, so that there is proof of the delivery of the item in cases such as this. If you don't have that proof then chances are that you're going to have to refund.

grade15, it doesn't matter about feedback paypal require proof of delivery to stop the chargeback. That is the buyer protection, ie it protects the buyer against items not arriving in the post.

The seller has the protection of getting a refund from the Royal Mail.

If you have the proof of posting from a post office...you simply fill out a form, send it off and wait.

If you don't have the proof of posting receipt.....you can't.

Does anyone know the maximum limit that you can claim when you only have a PoP?

The maximum compensation for an item sent by ordinary mail as long as you have the certificate/proof of posting - is £32 which is = to 100 1st class stamps.
I had to make a claim last year and printed off a copy of a Paypal invoice showing how much the item I sold had sold for and included that with the compensation form. They only paid compensation on the item value and not the cost of postage too!

Don't get me started on that one! Infuriates me that we pay for postage, Royal mail admit to a loss and then refuse to pay out the original postage paid...grrr.

Also, I use my ebay invoices for proof of value, so my postage costs actually also include packing as well, so I lose that. double grrrr
