Hi everybody.
My first grandchild will be one soon and I want to give her a really different present not the usual teddy, toy, clothes etc.
Looking for some ideas from all you inventive people out there.
Obviously there is a limit on what I can spend but I suppose I could go up to £100 as it is a very special day.
Thanks in advance

How about a picture of somewhere that is special to your family, or a piece of furniture. I still have a tiny chair that I was given when I was too small to sit on it!GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000

For my nephews 1st I bought him a little ride on trike. He was too young for it at the time, but even then it was obvious he was keen to get moving. As he grew his Dad showed him now to use it....and after that there was no stopping him.
Its became one of his favourite toys and he still loves bombing around on it (even though he's now over 2 and is getting a bit big for it).Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move

on a money saving theme, there are some lovely silver plate piggy banks out there, how about one of those to get them in the money saving habit and some premium bonds to make up the total?Debt Oct 2005: £32,692.94
Current debt: £14,000.00

If you want to please the parents - ask them first how they would feel if you started a "uni" fund with the money - or else something they would love for the baby.
For the baby - get a Huge cardboard box and put some blown up ballooons in it - so they float out when it is opened."This site is addictive!"

I like this idea of putting things in perhaps photos etc to keep for later,

and as they usually want the wrapping etc, I love the balloon idea above

lovely idea as they will hear their name0 -
Kit Heath does a wonderful range of baby jewellery that will grow with her - you can get pretty charm bracelets and add to them as she grows or necklaces with initials - my teenagers actually have some of this as they saw me buy it for others and love it so much so i know that it will last!!
Lots of place sell it but here's one to give you an idea:

A collection of things relevant to the day. A copy of all the newspapers for that date, the record that's no.1, a set of coins for this year or the year of birth, a 'This is you life' book that you can add to each birthday.
The box of balloons, what a smashing idea.0 -
Wasn't Lillibet on here last summer saying she wanted to lay down a bottle per year of good vintage wine for her son (who wasn't yet born at the time) to hand over to him on his 18th birthday?
I think that's a great idea - after all, a 1 year old isn't going to remember much about what they got for their birthday, so it doesn't have to be something that's useful to them right now.

i second the ride on idea... my nephew got one for christmas (which was about a week after his first birthday) and he LOVES it. it has a storage cubby under the seat, which is his secret hidey hole for all his 'finds'..so whenever we cant find the remote, we know where to look

i think the bottle of wine is also a nice ideaknow thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
