What are your spending weaknesses?

ie stuff you really know you should cut from your budget but can't seem to manage it.

I have two at the moment:

1) Cigarettes - will get round to that when I'm ready and to be honest I just have to

that's fairly common but this one is less so:

2) Shop coffees - I have this habit of going to a Starbucks or a Costas and spending about £2.50 a day for a latte. Every night I say 'Tomorrow I will not buy one' but on the way to work I always succumb - probably because I'm so tired first thing in the morning.

Holidays I live from one to the next. It's only 5 months since I was at Disneyland Paris, but by Feb I was crying for another one.

The fags too, but im not really willing to give up just yet.

I used to have a few, diet coke, newspapers, "bargains", food. Ive broke the back of all of them already, and I now longer am a slave to spending :T
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

I got rid of my coke habit (bloody hell I sound like a junkie), I find coke makes me feel bloated and ill now.

  • 'bargains' - I completely agree with. I used to go to Sainsburys just to look for cheapo food offers and end up spending about a fiver more than normal - my mind overestimates the savings on the cheapo food and then I also buy food I don't really need!

Clothes and accessories, especially if I'm somewhere like primark and I see say, a belt for £2 and just buy it without thinking if I truly want it :(

Magazines are another. I have improved vastly (at one point I was buying about 8 glossies a month - don't ask me why!) Now I generally buy 2-3 a month but I often read them and wonder why I bother wasting money.

Shop coffees - albeit, not that often. Usually just weekends, and they are treats! But I do love sitting in an overpriced coffee bar with a big frothy latte! :D

    hi mercury rising
how about instead of "tomorrow i will not buy a coffee" you say
"today i will find/borrow/bargain buy a flask and put it next to the kettle ready for the morning"
i've got an insulated mug which i take with me - i make a cup of tea for me and a cup of tea for the sealed mug and just take it with me
  • I used to have loads!! So called "bargains" my reasoning would be "but it was CHEAP!" magazines was another one, spent a fortune on them! General snacks, even though I'd take my lunch to work I would still go out and buy stuff on my lunch break, crisps, sweets, chocolate, drinks etc.

But like lynzpower I have pretty much broken the back of it. Although I do allow myself a weekly sweetie allowance as this really is my vice!! And I have given up smoking- 3 months now!!! THe shop up the road from me does penny sweets so I buy 10 fruit salads (yummy!!) for 10p and they last me a couple of days, usually do this twice a week so it's only 20p, not too bad!!

Me, I'm addicted to shop-bought lattes too!! I usually go to town once a week with my toddler, and treat us to a drink in the coffee shop. If I don't go manage to go one week, I get all twitchy about it, and I can't relax until I've had my fix.
