Watch out BT customers on the "unlimited, anytime plan" – it's not unlimited and it isn't any time....

Unlimited calls are to geographic UK numbers only. You haven't seen that?
In minute print on the back of their August letter to customers trumpeting lower 0845 call charges, BT announced a new "fair use" condition: from 1 October, "free" calls will be limited to a maximum of 150 per month and/or 1,000 minutes. Anything over that will be charged at BT's swingeing standard prices, which themselves are increasing by over 16% on 1 October.
1.96p per minute daytime; 0.49p per minute evening and night-time. Swingeing?

    Official Company Representative
I am the official company representative of BT. MSE has given permission for me to post in response to queries about the company, so that I can help solve issues. You can see my name on the companies with permission to post list. I am not allowed to tout for business at all. If you believe I am please report it to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com This does NOT imply any form of approval of my company or its products by MSE"

    Hi Catford

I must advise that as per the terms of special offers, they cannot be offered in conjunction with another special offer. You can only be on one special offer at a time.

Stuart...where in the info does it say that the anytime deal is a special offer? It's just described as a calling plan and there is no way to not have the friends and family element in some shape or form.
Do I get a cooling off period? how long is it?...because I'm now not sure I can trust BT to tell the whole story.

Yes, I know that inclusive calls are restricted to UK, 0845 and 0870 numbers only – that hasn’t changed. What’s new is the restriction on the number of inclusive calls or time per month, which undermines the term “unlimited”, looks to me like a material change in the terms of service and isn’t what I signed up for.

I also don’t recognise the call charges you quote. According to the same BT letter, from 1 October non-inclusive daytime calls (such as those exceeding the new limits) will be charged at 5.25p per minute or part of a minute – up from 4.5p, an increase of 16.66% – with a set-up fee of 9.05p per call on top. So a call lasting just over 2 minutes, for instance, will cost very nearly 25p after 1 October. Seems pretty swingeing to me!

You're wrong on the cost of 'outside plan' 0845 calls. The prices JPB quoted are correct.

The relevant aspect is, outside plan, calls will be charged at the standard rate for the particular number range.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

If your calls are still cps to Supanet and havent been taken over by BT yet. Phone the BT Customer Options team and tell them you want to cancel original order , and then reapply on the cheaper line rental deal.
