I had an argument with my wife and she ended up thronging a spectacles case and i called 999. the police come after 2 or so hours. I then calmed down and with drew the allegation.
now I get a constant call on my mobile from the police, to go to the police station and give a written statement. the police officer says that he only needs 1/2 an hour of my time. this has happened about 2/3 months ago.
i do not want 2 give any statement. any advice what i shou do

suprised that the police took 2 hours to answer a 999 call. when i phoned them on saturday, they were here in a matter of mins.
i would go along to the station in person, and tell them that you want to put it in writing that you dont wish to make a statement, i dont think they can make you give oneenjoy life, we only get one chance at it:)0 -
Tell the Police you no longer want to make a written statement as you no longer wish to make an allegation.
Unless someone committed an offense while the Police were there and they want you to provide a witness statement in relation to that offence?
A statement has to voluntary - they cant make you give one0 -
If you don't - you may be given a warning for waisting police time and dialing 999 in a non-Emergency.
A statement is just that - you don't have to press charges.
also, without being funny if in the future something happens again and is more serious, then you have this as an example.0 -
If all that happened was that in the course of an argument your wife threw a spectacles case at you, but your reaction was to call 999, you may find that actually you are wanted at the police station to face a talking to by the inspector for wasting police time and resources. I wouldn't have thought that they would go so far as to issue a formal caution given the length of time that has elapsed, but they may well be having a drive to crack down on this kind of thing, and be putting a shot across the bows of those who use the emergency number for things which are patently not emergencies.0

Pop down to the station and give a 2 line statement saying that you no longer wish to take the matter any further and will not support the police. Failing that call up direct and complain to the duty sergeant that they keep calling you - they should write it off as you are refusing to deal with them.0

hayesharry,
The reason the Police keep contacting you is due to the current domestic violance policy where they have to be pro active in how they deal with domestic incidents in a bid to prevent them escalting as the majority of murders in this country are actually domestic related. The Police need to show that should someone in a domestic incident suffer a seroios domestic assault or worse that they did all they possibly could to prevent it from happening if the ipcc investigates.
You will in no way shape or form be spoken to about waisting police time as when the incident occured you felt the need to call the Police to resolve the situation.
My advice to you in relation to what you should do if you do not want a police prosecution is to speak to the officer and explain the reason for calling was that at the time you required the police to assist in resoving the situation however you have now sorted it, that you do not wish to make any statement about the incident. this will 100 percent be good enough for the police to file the incident however be aware the police and cps can bring a victimless prosecution should the incident merit it.
hope this helps0 -
