I havent read Engelby, but (sorry) I'm actually Engelbert, in honour of the immortal Humperdink.
Is it any good? I git a bit fed up of Sebastian Faulks, I read about three of his novels in quick succession and I find his writing very 'showy' and as a result I never get lost in the book. Maybe I was in a bad mood when I read them and should give him another try. I didn't like the Kite Runner the first time I read it but loved it on a second reading0 -
Poppysarah,
We CAN'T offer more even if we wanted to - it's been valued at what we are/were paying.
Surely their survey will come in at the same price as ours?
Just possibly, your valuation could be increased to the other offer, if the Agent is willing to disclose details to your surveyor, but you would still be left to find the funds to trump that offer.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Is your EA being 100% honest?
Happened to me before, its a horrible feeling. Hopefully you will find somewhere soon.i buy houses ........... any condition.0 -
Thanks for the moral support. We are debating ringing the agent in the morning and saying if the viewing goes ahead we are OUT!
Either way we lose really- lots of swearing going on in Devon tonight.
Engelbert- the book is good- very dark though. If you liked the Kite Runner then read A thousand Splendid Suns- it's even better than the Kite Runner.0 -

So sorry to hear this, it is very disappointing.
I suggest that you go and visit a few EAs tomorrow and get some brochures for houses in your price range. Then call in at your EA and do the same (with the other brochures in your hand/obviously visible). While you are in there ask if they've had any word from the vendor about 'your' house and if they don't tell you what you want to hear, say something like 'ah well, it can't do any harm to look around'.
Then go and look around.
The message will get back to the vendors and at the very least you should get a quick decision, otherwise you risk being kept dangling for weeks.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -

Get on the phone to them asap and tell them that if they show anyone else the house you withdraw your offer - a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.0

The vendors are scumbags, we are going through the same process, we have been gazumped beofore but luckily we hadnt spent any money, some people have no loyalty if they agree a price that should be it, if it happened to us after spending money i know i would have to ensure the vendor was out of pocket aswell, just go and poke a load of dog !!!!!! through their letter box.0

I can understand how annoyed you must be - but it isn't just buyers that are treated shoddily - twice we have taken our house off the market and twice we have been let down - that to us was more than 2 months of potential buyers lost - I think as a seller once you accept an offer - if you then fail to follow through to accept a higher offer you should be made to compensate the other buyer.0
