schueys_girl wrote: »oh and a wee sh$tty wage is the reality for a lot of people - £95 a week for 5 days 8-4 and then working a bar job as well is a real Sh$tty wage but my fiance does it and I love him for it because it means we are in control of what we spend, we are not in debt and not spending money we do not have!!!!
From Monday morning when we give each other a kiss goodbye we are passing ships in the night until Wednesday night when we both collapse on the sofa at 8pm and finally actually get some time together. But we do it so we can do things with our money and not be in debt.
Try it!
Thanks for that, at least we are not alone, it just feels that way 99% of the time to be honest. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Because Next is expensive, have a look in the supermarkets or primark.0 -
What I'm about to say may sound quite harsh but...
...There are plenty of people out there who do 'wee $hitty part time evening jobs' as a first, second or, even, third job to help get them and keep them out of the debt spiral. What makes you think you and your family are so different that this wouldn't work for you? Don't knock it before you've even tried it.
You've come back with an objection for every idea that people have put forward to help you and your situation. I feel for the people who have already posted because, really, they've just wasted their time and effort. If everybody's ideas are such a no-go, what do you think you could do?
I dont have a clue, Im almost 30, I have been broke since I left school at 16, it hasn't changed one bit, dispite training etc I may as well have pee'd in the fire for all the good it did so my patience is starting to wear a bit thin with life in general, Had I maybe lived a bit prior to getting in debt it might of helped a bit, I dare say the next 30 years won't be any different. Sorry if I'm feeling sorry for myself but there you go, and as for the advice I am greatful to all those who contribute and I will impliment some of the suggestions. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. And yes you could go bankrupt if you wanted to - people do - there are grants for some people or you just stop paying everybody (all the unsecured creditors and save up for the bankruptcy fee).
Yes it's pants - the problem is the 'luxury items' ie lottery, savings (for presents) etc and the car loan from family/friends. Unfortunately something has to give - we can give suggestions but at the end of the day we can't wave a magic wand.
You have had the suggestions and now you need to make the best decision for you and your family -whether that's a second job/ a lower rate dmp/cutbacks/or bankruptcy.
You are in the same position as a lot of people - you have debts - whether that's from financial missmangaement, frivoulous spending or just plain bad luck (or a combination).

Oh - I can't afford a car
, can't afford to run one so rely on buses, can't justify spending the money on lessons,or tests either at the moment as have been given notice by our LL (as he is selling) and have no job so the money I do have I can't afford to spend on a car
- the point is I can't afford to shop at Next, spend 16 pounds a month on the lottery or drive a car so I don't - yes it's not particularly great but needs must.

I don't drive either as yes I could never afford to, but if we didn't have a car we would have no work as public transport is crap outside Belfast, I can't afford to shop at Next either but no harm in looking.
But I have spoken to Payplan earlier on who have reduced my DMP until the New Year until I get myself sorted out a bit if we can, I agree the Lotto etc is a waste of money, my partner doesn't feel the same so what can I do?
But it does help to know there is more than us struggling because we honestly don't know anyone else in the same boat. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
