Dry Cleaner Shrunk My Dress after one wear!!!!

I am confused about my consumer rights

I bought a dress from Monsoon approx one month ago. It cost me £95. I wore it to a wedding on the 12th September and then brought it directly to the dry cleaners afterwards to get cleaned as i had a wedding on the 19th September also.

After collecting if from the dry cleaners i inspected all the beading which hadn't been damaged however didn't try the dress on until the morning of the wedding on 19th. By then it was too late, the hem of the dress had risen by over an inch to two inchs and now the slip under neath showed underneath the tunic dress. I had no alternative but to wear the dress to the wedding even though it had quite clearly shrunk.

Also, as i had attepted to pull the dress down over the slip several of the beads at the side of the dress came off.

Who is at fault - should i complain to the dry cleaners or to monsoon. I clearly followed the instructions on the dress for cleaning it and yet it is no longer fit for purpose. i hate to think how much further the dress would shrink if i got it cleaned again. I have asked the dry cleaners for a dry cleaning report so i can prove to Monsoon it was cleaning by the correct specifications

Any advice

Much thanks

Have a hard time proving it after such a long time afterwards.

You could - write a letter to the manager explaining what has happened - B get a solicitor.

send RD letter asking for their commments and intentions in relation the the matter or you will take them to the small claims court.

services have to be carried out using reasonable care and skill, that of an industry professional.

Obviously the OP ate too much cake at the first wedding...
  • OP ignore post about wearing the dress twice. I often go to weddings with different people at each so it makes sense to wear the same dress - very money saving!
  • well actually they were two completely different sets of people. One family and one friends.

Also the dress has shrank in length Halloway (at least two inches) making it too short to wear without making a scene!!

Going to the dry cleaners today to see what they say and if they can't do anything i will get a dry cleaners report and return the dress to Monsoon

    Hi,
Haven't been on for ages but I just logged on to search for the same problem. I have just washed my monsoon dress at 30 degrees (label says 40) and it has shrunk about 4 inches above the lining!
Interestingly I washed this with a next signature silk top which is handwashable at 30 and this is intact.

What I am saying is give monsoon a call - it may not be the drycleaners fault but perhaps a faulty made dress.

Why? Whats wrong with wearing the same dress twice in a week? The OP had it cleaned inbetween wears, this is a Moneysaving web-site and I see no problem wearing clothes more than once!

OP I would speak to the dry cleaners and contact Monsoon to see what they suggest.
