The reason they wanted the bill was it had all the information they needed to switch you :-
Bill Payers Name
Current Supplier
Account Number
Hope this helps.... never show them anything !!
I always tell them I like to pay more as the electricity from **** power company is better quality !! Or i tell them I have money to burn so I like to be on the highest Tarriff ! Or that the gas smells better with my existing company.... lol:rotfl:
When i was doing this job we would genuinely use the bills to find out current rate etc and although I can see not all door-to-door sellers are innocent they are not all like you say either why not just listen to what they have to say and see if it is worth switching or not? Is it difficult to give someone 5-10 mins of your time in order to give people jobs especially in these difficult times?0 -
I've had two salesmen come in the past few weeks! The first from NPower who convinced me to change because I'd get £200 next year as well as cheaper fuel etc.
Then E-On came the other day and wow he was pushy. I said I'd just changed and tried to close the door but he kept on talking and well, I guess he pursuaded me to change with telling me Npower had been fined for misleading customers and so on. He said it had JUST happened but when I checked on the Internet that was in 2008 that NPower paid fines for their doorstep misdeeds.
He also was way too familar and made it a point several times that he was putting his home number on the welcome back. Unecessary!
Scottish Power called me again last night and talked me into staying with them. They said the Eon guy must have only told me one rate as he sold it to me as being 9p a unit and thats it. When it's not actually the case.
I find all of this stressful. I'm not usually so gullable but I don't know, I just want to get rid of them mostly. I don't even deal with the utilities usually. Problem is, we are perfectly capable of figuring out a good deal online if we have the desire to do so. I don't care for being given the hard sell on my doorstep.:heart2:I have a child with autism.:heart2:0 -

In a word "no".
Have you seen my previous post where I showed that both the Trading Standards Institute and the National Pensioner's Convention have both called for a complete ban on the doorstep selling of energy? Unfortunately this industry has got such a bad reputation because of it's continued scams (at least 1200 complaints this year), the only way to stop people being conned is to ban it completely. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0 -
I was asked by the local power supplying company who I got supplies from at the time it was Scottish Power & he said why is that are you from Scotland lol I know these guys have a tough job so some will resort to any tactics to get a sale but I just make a rule never to buy from the doorstep far better to use one of the many price comparison sites to find which overall package suits you....imho :-)Theres only two rules to remember1) Im always right2) See rule 10

my rules with door to door sales things are as follows:
try to sell to me, i will claim i am not in a position to buy (doors/windows are ''the councils'' responsibility even though i am private, utilities etc are ''down to the landlord'' even though its my house etc
if i want something i will price it up and choose for myself, end of
i got one guy the other week
''hello mr *********?''
''erm...no, he's been gone a year''
''ok, sorry sir i am from *cant remember where he said, but was flogging npower to former customers*, yadda yadda yadda, eyes lit up when i said i was on prepayment, said i could get prompt payment discount and stay on prepayment''
''i'll have a price up online and get my rates of s.p and i'll be in touch''
i havent done any of thatthings arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back thenMercilessKiller wrote: »BH is my best mate too, its ok
I trust BH even if he's from Manchester..

I had a bloke from Southern Electric knock at the door a few weeks ago, really really pushy. Told him several times that we'd just moved in (true) and that we'd be reviewing our utilities when we were settled. I said we'd look them up on the internet and be in touch should they be good value. He then claimed that we'd only get the prices he was offering if we signed up there and then.
Yeah right :rolleyes:0
