Downgrading Orange contract early

Hi,

I am 14 months into an 18 month Orange contract - well actually my daughter is, but I'm paying for it :)

She is now starting Uni, and at her campus & lodgings her phone is unusable, due to rubbish coverage. Given that she is not able to take advantage of the unlimited texts she has on the current contact, DAK if it would be possible to downgrade the contract early, without penalty?

The current contract is "Dolphin 25 Websave -5.00 18mth" - what would be the cheapest she could change to?

regards
Les

You can drop by one tariff a month as a rule.
  • I'll give them a call at the weekend when she's home.

    Thanks

Interesting, I had no idea you could lower an orange tariff before the end of the minimum contract period. How would this affect cashback deals trhough third parties, e.g. Via the like of dialaphone? Will they use any contract change as an excuse to not honour cashbacks?

Change the plan, lose the cashback (usually). . .

That is what I was afraid of. I suppose it depends on whether you are better off losing the cashback compared with the savings made after downgrading.
In the case of an 18 month contract, if you get downgraded after 9 months can you still cancel the contract when it hits the minimum 18 months or will the act of downgrading automatically extend it?

No, moving down a tariff won't extend the contract it just change the monthly amount. So if you're in an 18 month contract it's still 18 months.

Bare in mind this is a goodwill gesture by the network, they don't have to change the terms and some of them (T-mobile for example) have moved to only letting customers move down in the last month of their contract rather than half way. In the current climate I can see the other networks following suite soon. . .
